Clickbait. Same could be said about Philly the past 4 years and look at them.

    From Heisler LA DN ...

If more heads may have to roll before the Lakers return to greatness, none is as eagerly awaited as the one under Jim Buss’s baseball cap.

Jim doesn’t deserve the flak he gets from Laker fans but neither did Mike D’Antoni, who was run out on a rail from the day he was hired instead of Phil Jackson.

No, Jim didn’t do that. Jerry Buss did, despite the “stab in the back” charge
that Jeanie levelled at her brother.

I’ve been talking to Laker people who were involved since that went down the night of Sunday, Oct. 11, 2012. As one said unequivocally: “Dr. Buss was the decision maker.”
Jim is hardly the only son or daughter running Dad’s team (see: Jim Dolan, Knicks; Michael Reinsdorf, Bulls; Josh Kroenke, Nuggets; Gail Miller, Jazz). Of course, some, like Kroenke, who played at Missouri, had actual credentials and/or worked their way up in the office, putting in eight hours a day in the office, which Jim didn’t.

Nevertheless, Jimbo invited scorn by saying dumb things. Worse, he was the Buss left holding the bag, appearing to take over—although he hadn’t--when the Lakers started into their nosedive.

In the bad news for Laker fans, dumping Jim won’t matter.

With Jeanie asserting her role as No. 1 Buss and GM Mitch Kupchak free to run the team as he always has, Jim doesn’t hurt, aside from p.r. blunders.

Moving Jim out—as Jeanie has promised to do if they’re not in the West Finals in two seasons—won’t help.

Everyone finger-pointing Jim ...but he gets no credit for Randle, Clarkson and Russell only the blame when we fail. Makes no sense. Mitch is the GM and Jeanie is the head of franchise Ops. The draft cam video made it clear Mitch called the final shots on Druss over Oakafor. I support the move still ...but if anyone should be held accountable if Oakafor stars and Druss fails it's ... Mitch. Jeanie gave the contract (Jim also supported this). Not sure why people take the easy way out and blame Jim. It's a what have yo done for me lately business ...Mitch has plenty of work to do.

    A couple things from above:

    1. Phil was an asshole. when two organizations you bring 11 les to both don't mind you leaving ... ...Phil sure can rub people the wrong way ...
    2. Jim is (probably) a moron but that doesnt mean he deserves the blame for the Laker woes.
    3. Mitch is still the GM, Jeanie runs the day-to-day and Jim counsels Mitch as head of the b-ball side. Pretty sure Mitch cant blame Jim for his failings. and if the young core "busts" or dont fetch us established vets then Mitch needs to be held accountable, not Jim.

If the Lakers are so good they are set for the future then we won't have to
hear about all the free agents that are going to sign with them....

We don't need FA's to build a team. Magic was a draft pick. Kobe was a draft pick... 12 idiots passed him up. Randle was a draft pick... he'll be better than Duncan.

Jim fired plenty of scouts and put his drunk bartender on the payroll. He deserves all the blame he gets.

Buss was still running the shop when the scouts were fired or at the very least if you are going to disagree with a non-homer reporter who has covered the team for years ... gave his blessings.

BTW, people act as though like giving unqualified friends and former colleagues jobs doesn't happen everyday in corporate america. At Children's hospitals Dallas (both Frisco and Downtown) I know two business analysts and they both complain about how Directors bring in people they have worked with brothers, sisters etc.
Same was true when I worked for CHASE and WAMU.

Not saying he is nt dumb for doing it but it happens ALL the time ...

so you don't think the other FA the lakers picked up that year had anything to do with the championships that were won a few years later?
