Overall, it was a disappointing game that we let slip from our hands as typical for most other seasons (outside of 2014). The defense was atrocious for the most part, while the halfcourt offense was generally pretty good. However, the Spurs lost the game by committing over a hundred zillion live-ball turnovers that almost always led to easy scores on the other end. The Beal three at the buzzer was the dagger, but the game shouldn't have come down to that.
Tim Duncan C Timmy has looked very good and in shape to start the season, but this wasn't one of his more spectacular efforts. Aside from the lack of assertiveness and his tendency to mishandle the ball tonight depriving himself and teammates of some easy scores, he committed several horrid turnovers that led to scores on the other end. He wasn't great defending the rim tonight, though he was still the best on the team at that. He let the heavier Gortat beat him to the basket on outlet plays repeatedly off made baskets, and it wasn't even a back-to-back. Overall not a night to remember for the living legend, despite his decent effort rebounding the basketball when the Wizards did miss.
Tony Parker B+ Tony hasn't had the greatest start to the season, but he's getting there. One could tell tonight, particularly when he had a stretch where he scored on several key drives in a short period of time: an and-1, a teardrop, and a trip to the foul line where he split the pair. He isn't distributing well to his standards yet, and he's still a bit of a liability defensively. Contributed to the turnover problem and wasn't as surehanded as he could have been. However, he did make an extremely clutch 3 under duress to at least give the Spurs a chance at the end. One of the better Spurs out there tonight.
Manu Ginobili A- Manu continues to look like he's moved past last year's struggles. Once again, he was an offensive wizard tonight in his limited minutes, setting up teammates for open looks when he wasn't scoring, making hoops at seemingly critical junctures to keep the Wizards at bay late in the 3rd. Likely the best Spur out there tonight despite limited minutes. Only major rotation Spur with no turnovers. Needs to keep up the great effort, unfortunate that it went to waste though.
Kawhi Leonard C- The good: had another pretty good scoring effort (though 23 points on 22 shots isn't exactly great efficiency), had a great stretch of offense and defense in the 2nd quarter, and wasn't hesitant and bashful. The bad: He made some poor decisions on offense, missed critical shots, and most importantly and most worrisome of all, he was an absolute traffic cone/statue on defense against his man (usually Beal or Wall) in the 4th quarter when the Spurs desperately needed stops. Did not fight very well over screens which led to open jumpers and even layups for the Wizards, but he wasn't the primary cause of that. Still, a subpar effort for the likely first-time All-Star.
LaMarcus Aldridge F He gets zero slack for being a newcomer on this one. The double-double is irrelevant because it was one of the most worthless ones I've seen in quite awhile. Stunk up the game on both ends; couldn't throw it in the ocean despite being given a vast array of opportunities, couldn't buy a jumper or score in the post, turned it over 651678 times, was soft on the boards, fouled instead of going up for blocks, contributed to the Spurs' poor spacing in the early 1st quarter and the 4th quarter, clanked a critical open shot, and most importantly -- completely and utterly lost his man, who happened to be Bradley Beal, the best three-point shooter on the Wizards, for the easiest game-winner he'll get in his life (0.5 out of 5 on the "Horry" Scale). Couldn't say more negative about this guy; despite being paid by far the highest salary on the team, he played as if he was barely worth a mid-level exception tonight. Not fitting into the system well at all, and if he can't shoot, he can't be a Spur. Embarrassing effort, offense defense and special teams from the guy. Enough said.
Danny Green D- While Green was atrocious on defense all game, he gets a positive notch because he actually made some shots tonight. The worst shot attempt of the game was a shot he actually made, but unfortunately he missed a handful of easier threes he definitely should have hit that certainly would have made a difference in the game. Aside from that, he was awful. Simply, bad. Repeatedly lost his man for easy layups, couldn't fight over a screen if his life depended on it, and all and all just didn't seem to give a damn tonight. Not to mention, he turned the ball over 4 times and all of those led to momentum-changing layups or 3s for the Wizards when they seemed down and out. Terrible effort, hope he steps up before Patty Mills and even Rasual Butler start eating into his minutes.
Boris Diaw D+ Though he didn't play a lot of minutes, he sure didn't help much, either. Scored one point in 16 minutes and didn't seem to fit in well at all on either end. Wasn't a great playmaker, nor did he have an impact on the boards. A forgettable night for the French croissant chef tonight.
Patty Mills C- Though his energy contributed to the Spurs rebounding from their godawful start, his individual play didn't provide anything to write home about tonight. Committed a couple bad live-ball turnovers and clanged his only two three-point attempts. Nothing to admire defensively, either.
David West F+ In only eleven minutes, West seemed to quash any chance the Spurs had to blow the game open, either in the second quarter (up 10-12) or in the late third/early fourth (up 7, 8, 9 multiple times). The main culprit with West is that enemy teams see him as an easy target. Back his soft ass down and get an easy 2 points, free throws, or a wide open three if the defense is forced to double. The fact that Nene/Gortat kept getting easy shots over West to keep the Wizards in the game, along with Aldridge's putrid performance on both ends, were the most significant reasons the Spurs got their asses handed to them tonight in a non-back-to-back against an average Leastern Conference team.
Rasual Butler A- I was very impressed with his overall play given his limited minutes. One of the very few bright spots on defense, and made a few big shots than purported to stem the tide (if only, the defense could get a stop without turning it over 5 seconds later or less). If he had made the corner 3 he missed, he likely would have received an "A" and the Spurs would have won. Still, he has to be the backup SF going forward, Anderson is terrible; Pop, please wake up.
Kyle Anderson Incomplete Though I'm not an Anderson fan by any stretch, his four minutes of action weren't too horrible tonight, but Butler was simply better. Made a couple free throws and a short jumper, clanged a 3. Meh.
Gregg Popovich D If the Spurs want to stay in the hunt for homecourt advantage, Popovich has to realize that the Spurs play in the West and he can't get away with this mad-scientist rotation horse manure early in the season. He has to respond to such a poor performance by screaming in the guys' face, calling them soft, and expecting a team of angry hornets for the next 10+ games. Otherwise, the Spurs will fall too far back for anything to matter come the second half of the season. Also, sitting Duncan for Aldridge on the last play and subs uting in Parker for strict defensive plays was pretty bad on his part.

I can't believe this got wrote a whole bunch of nothing. Next time, don't waste your time on ty write-ups. SRS.![]()
I think you are being generous with Pattys grade..... dude has been horrible.
Also, Kawhi maybe deserves a B- because he had a solid first half. Otherwise, spot on.
Very pleased with Butler.
Do you want to fight or something?![]()
Go drink a can of Drano.
got a great laugh and I feel a lot better. thanks man.
"offense, defense, special teams" .. thats a classic.
Holy you've only been a member 2 years and you have 5,000 more posts than me. That's ing sad guy. I'd argue with your stupid takes but i truly think this message board is all you got. Go you keep doing you whatever keeps you from killing yourself.
5k posts in 2 years? Please stop trolling kid.
ummmm I'm with you that guy's being a troll, but 5k posts in 2 years isn't really a lot, all things considered... ElNono's ratio is much higher, and I can think of a LOT of other guys...
Thanks for the write up! Aside from Kawhi and maybe Manu, everyone sucked tonight.
23 points on 22 shots isn't exactly great though...
These are actually some great grades.
LaNeedStah Scrimmage?
Best signing since y Jefferson?
Still when he was on in the second quarter, he couldn't be stopped.
I didnt know there was a "F+". I thought anything below a D- was an F.
Played like 6'11" y tonight, tbh.
Also, Timvp gave Manu an F+ for a game in like 2013 so I'm sticking to it.
The loss was BS, yes.
Glad to hear you survived typhoon Haiyan, tbh
You joined ST on 7-6-2015 and you know who Timvp is?
I joined ST on 7-6-2015?read my le man... I've had various accounts since 2009, but my very first one got suspended due to youth and I've pretty much been a hardcore lurker ever since, not having been able to re-join due to the new user block of the last few years or so. Timvp is awesome, wish he'd post more for old time's sake (he's actually younger than TD, so I don't know why he wouldn't... I was here for the lung infection scare in 2011 and everything).
Thanks for the grades.
I would have liked to see Danny on Beal and Kawhi on Porter, neither of them could have scored 20+ points. Kawhi's D on SF is the best in the league, like Danny's on small guards.
Also, LMA and Kawhi barely touched the ball in the 4th quarter. You have a guy who scored 18 points in the first half and no one gave him the ball in the whole quarter until the last seconds of the game?
Keep doing this Pop...![]()
Well since timvp decides to sit and grow rich on internet business yet still watch every game meticulously and not do ST grades, I applaud anyone who cares to do a write ups:
Spurs rang in 2009? Really? Did Roger Mason make the championship clinching shot and win FMVP?![]()
nice work
