Parker shoots way too much.
...can we say he's decreased as far as his role on the team?
Obviously there is not going to be another Spur that distributes the ball like Parker. The question is, will his role be reduced to say, the #3 scorer on the team? It's possible that he finishes behind Kawhi AND Aldridge this season (even though he's shooting better from the field than both of them and Duncan). This season he's averaging slightly more than Duncan per game as Duncan's scoring role continues to diminish each season (dropped every year for the last 4 years). At some point, Parker won't carry the scoring AND assists load for the team every season, and that day may be coming in the near future.

Parker was the worst NBA player and post season player.
This team is in deep if Parker ends up scoring more than Kawhi or Aldridge, tbh![]()
Not adding any useful analysis.
The op already stipulates that Parker will not be the leading scorer. Tbh this thread is redundant since we've been discussing the issue of the offense (mainly in apo's troll thread "what happened in the third quarter" but also el nono's "should we change the starting backcourt")
But it's nice to look at that list and see that changing the offense is more difficult than it seems like it should be to a casual fan. You don't mess with what works (not saying Parker is anywhere near his peak, but he still works ) and that's the main thing with Parker haters. They appear to have no idea of how valuable Parker had been since 2007.
Parker should theoretically be the 3rd leading scorer tbh. Spurs need someone who can get in the paint so Leonard/Aldridge/West can be freed for jumpers. Manu isn't going to be playing enough to be in that role and there's 0 other slashers on the roster. If no one is penetrating then the offense will just be mid range isos.
If he continues to be as efficient as he's been, it doesnt matter if he's the 1st or 2nd or 3rd. The issue is his ball distribution/assists and decisions in crunch time.
But he shoots a high percentage compared to the rest of the team.
Lol, you probably actually believe that, which is how delusional the krew rhetoric has you.
Maybe I should pull out some stats for you.
Stop reading right there.

I don't care who the 3rd scorer is.
But Parker makes some of the worst turnovers for a PG.
It's like his hands don't know how to adjust to his new slower speed.
For real.
Everyone sees that right?
Let me guess, efficiency stats with low volume against second units. Or one of a hundred cherry-picked "advanced" stats. Yes, please find some. I'm talking about scoring lots of points and having lots of assists. I guess I'm old fashioned that way. Bbbbbuuuutttttt look at Boban's +/- !!!! He must be the best Spur on the team!!!!
Or who has the most assists apparently. I know those things don't matter for you. You're more interested in how it "feels." Patty's shots make a better swish tho!!!! Lol.
I know what you're saying. But I don't know that Duncan's role has diminished. He's sacrificing shot attempts; but his importance to the team has not diminished, imo.
Oh...you're right. I just looked up his stats and he's averaged 21 assists this season.
My bad.
Yeah, I was wondering about that too. It's one thing for him to try and draw a foul at the rim(and turn it over), but he just bobbles the ball out of nowhere. He doesn't have to look out of control either; he just leaves the ball, it bounces off his foot, or plainly mishandles it. What am I missing? He didn't do that before, right?
And to the OP: His role has already been diminished. He won't be 1st or 2nd in scoring and if your thinking that, your more of a player fan than any or the other people in this thread. Whether he's 3, 4, 5, or 6 in scoring won't matter. If Parker's not scoring it will come from someone else. And although he's been the assist leader many years in a row, he might not finish 1st in assist this year. He's got compe ion from Manu, Boris, and even Tim. Ultimately, it doesn't matter who leads so long as the offence is hummin' nicely.
I don't think he did it noticeably until last season. I thought (or hoped) that it was due to the injury. But he's doing the same thing this year.
Frivolous Parker bashing aside, his arms and legs don't seem to be in sync.
It's actually something new for him, that's why it's noticeable, tbh... He had the same uncharacteristic turnovers over the summer with team France...
Hopefully it's just him finding out the limitations of his body, tbh...
Also, Manu was the #1 assist guy in the (only) playoff series against the Clippers last season...
I guess all the starters are making big adjustments to themselves and to each other. This could be worse for longer than I thought.![]()
Lol at Parker not leading the Spurs in assists. And seriously? 6th in scoring? He didn't even do that his rookie season. Where do you guys come up with this stuff? Lol. 6th! Hahaha! He hasn't finished lower than 3rd in 14 years, but yah he's going to finish 6th! Hahaha! Do you guys realize how silly that is?
Duncan hasn't outscored Parker in 6 years, but all the sudden this season he will, lol. Who else? Mills!? Hahaha! A guy who averaged less than 7 PPG last year! Oh yah. Hahah 6th!
Parker needs to come in 2nd behind LMA. Only way we'll win.
LMA #1
Parker #2
Tim #3
Manu #4
Mills is more than a 7 ppg guy given injuries last year, but he's also going against significantly lesser defenders. There are certain times Parker is matched up against bench units, and Mills against starters, but the huge dropoff in compe ion isn't quantifiable.
If your third / fourth / fifth / whatever offensive option is a PG who's going to shoot over 50% from the floor, there are worse situations in the league. Issue with the first unit has been ball movement and that will work itself out as Aldridge gets integrated. If Green's shooting picks up like in the Charlotte game, driving lanes become more available too.
Now on defense, that's a whole other issue. Parker can't defend Westbrook / Curry / Lawson / Conley / Paul. With OKC and Memphis, you can stick him on whatever garbage 2 they trot out there (yes, Waiters is still garbage and got lucky opening night). GS and Houston, that's not quite the case. As we saw, Clippers fall into that second bucket if Red and Crawford are hitting.
