Jordan is/was a politician. He said the Blazers b/c they were better and he didn't want to disrespect them and give them fodder; whereas, the Lakers were a cupcake team by championship standards.
I was about to make a thread about this; but since I'm talking about it here, here's the example I was thinking:
MJ knows that LBJ is the real compe ion to his legacy. So, he naturally puts him down ever so easily and elevates Kobe, who he knows doesn't measure up. When you bank like Jordan does, you make these calculated statements.
And now that I think about it in that capacity, LBJ's actions towards Jordan makes more sense:
