Half-Million Iraqis Died in the War, New Study Says

War and occupation directly and indirectly claimed the lives of about a half-million Iraqis from 2003 to 2011, according to a groundbreaking survey of 1,960 Iraqi households. The violence peaked in 2006 and 2007, say public health experts who were part of the study.

"We think it is roughly around half a million people dead. And that is likely a low estimate," says Hagopian. "People need to know the cost in human lives of the decision to go to war."

"I think having an accurate record of what happened is extremely important," he says, pointing to a 2005 comment by then U.S. President George Bush suggesting that only about 30,000 Iraqi civilians had died in the conflict.

Even if only 30K civilians had died by 2005 that is a ridiculous number. The Bush administration was truly one of the all time worst, if not the worst.

    Yup.

I wasn't old enough to vote for either of his terms. I would've voted for him if eligible his first term. Agreed with his politics. But I don't understand how he was voted into a second term after dropping the ball so badly with Iraq.

Looking back, and after reading his bio and about his past, he just wasn't presidential material, and never was. Same reason Trump isn't: these are people who've been given on a silver platter. Never had to worry about because rich daddy had it covered for them. Humble beginnings are an important indicator for me.

"how he was voted into a second term"

he was sold as a "wartime president", don't change horses ...

Repugs also passed Medicare bull to buy old people's votes in 2003 (and transfer $100Bs to insurance companies with Medicare Advantage, and regs to prevent govt from negotiating drug prices).

and OH Repug Secy of State Ken Blackwell, reprising JEB + K. Harris role in FL 2000, raped the election and vote counting, giving OH to shrub, and a 2nd term.

Gore "won", Kerry "won". Ms, so far, of foreigners lost their lives, countries destroyed, America made less secure and poorer.

    Thanks, Repugs!

30k is a ridiculous number because its 100% false. Bush was lying then and knew about it. Worst president in history and he pretty much got the ball rolling for the destabilization of the ME.

He should be in Guantanamo along with Condi Rice, Rummy and Cheney. ing criminals

Sand thing is we and our children are paying for their crimes. Not them.
