What's funny--and 100% true--is that all the older Spurfans (w/ children) on this site made sure they sold enough churros to take their kids to the Laker games so they could watch Kobe play. No kid was interested in 15ft bank shots and/or 4-down offensive sets. They wanted to see Kobe.

They also want to see the Ninja Turtles and Frozen, so that's more an indictment of the mental capacity of kids than an accolade of Kobe.

People rarely learn to love certain sports when they're adults...what first takes you in is the ability to do certain things that you can only dream of. Kobe could do those things--Duncan couldn't.

No one wanted to be a big. Everyone wanted to be Jordan or Dominique when I was in HS. Everyone wanted the ball all the time. No one talked about defense. There was no ball movement other than the inbounds pass. As we get older and learn the game, we begin to appreciate the Spurs style of play more than when we were kids.
Well that's different.
But he does. You're giving too much credit to the ASG. It's about what the fans want. If he wins the vote, he deserves it for whatever reason. Who cares if he cannot even walk, he's what the fans voted for. When people start to see the ASG as a popularity event instead of a collection of great players, they will be better able to cope with these things. I mean, the fans still pick most of the great players and I'd rather see Kobe struggle out there than see Kyle ing Lowry or DeMonkey Cousins get a tech in a ing exhibition game.
It's about entertainment. After 20 years in the league and 5 rings, 2 FMVPs and a RS MVP, this is to be expected. Thinking anything other than this would happen is naive. Just learn to grade the ASG as a charity event instead of an "All NBA" type thing. Eventually all of it will be about the same as the dunk contest where no one wants to be part of it.
