    Nowitzki passing, Parker failing
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2166845
    By Simon Wilkinson
    Special to ESPN.com

As we hit the midway point of the European Championships, it's time to hand out grades for the NBA players balling for their national teams.

    Dirk Nowitzki, Germany
    Stats: 26 points, 13 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.7 blocks
    Grade: A

    Andrei Kirilenko, Russia
    Stats: 16.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.0.apg, 3.6 spg, 2.0 bpg
    Grade: A-

    GROUP B
    Hedo Turkoglu, Turkey
    Grade: D-

    GROUP C
    Rasho Nesterovic, Slovenia
    Stats: 6.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg
The skinny: The Spurs center made up for a sub-par performance in the opening game by leading the way in the win over France on Sunday. Rasho had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and found the shooting touch that eluded him earlier in the tournament. Personal fouls and free-throw shooting are issues he needs to resolve before the quarterfinals.
    Grade: D+

    Tony Parker, France
    Stats: 4.7 ppg, 1.3 apg, 25.9% field-goal shooting
The skinny:The San Antonio Spurs point guard has probably been the biggest disappointment of the tournament so far. Although he has some injuries slowing him down at the moment, it's not known whether he's making any excuses himself. Back in San Antonio, Gregg Popovich might be worrying a bit.
    Grade: F

    GROUP D

    Darko Milicic, Serbia Montenegro
    Stats: 6.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg
    Grade: B+

    Vladimir Radmanovic, Serbia Montenegro
    Stats: 7.3 ppg, 3 rpg
    Grade: B

    Marko Jaric, Serbia Montenegro
    Stats: 10.4 ppg, 4 apg, 2 rpg
    Grade: B-

PLAYERS WHOSE RIGHTS ARE OWNED BY NBA TEAMS

    Robertas Javtokas, Lithuania
(Drafted No. 56 by the San Antonio Spurs in 2001; rights held by Spurs)
    Stats: 10.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists
The skinny: He had a motorcycle accident in May 2002 and for 16 months didn't know if he would ever play, let alone walk again. ... Once won a slam dunk contest on a 12-foot basket. ... Left Arizona University because he got tired of sitting on the bench ... He is considered one of the best defensive centers in Europe and proved at last year's Olympics he could hold his own against NBA players. He has started all three games for Lithuania. A center averaging two assists per game in Europe is a rare thing, even more so in the European Championships.
    Grade: B+

Hard to argue with the poor stats, but this:

"not known whether he's making any excuses himself"

    ... is just slime.

This is the first I've heard about this guy since he was in the accident (I'm sure there's been plenty posted but I didn't remember his name). Sounds like he's made a huge comeback. Is there a chance that he can eventually make the team in San Antonio or any NBA team for that matter?

    1. Writer makes his grades without watching Eurobasket!??? WTF

Parker has an F for three games, but Boris Diaw gettin C- for being a pillar of a team with incredible numbers?

Slovenia Team would be filled with players with grades under C+? What a pile of ...

Bostjan Nachbar C+, eventhough he is the first offensive choice

Sani Becirovic C-, though he is a player of the game against Greece, and solid player against France, where he had much attention on himself.

Rasho Nesterovich D+? If you remove the the Bosnia uverture, the guy was briliant! WTF? Do not forget he played in the toughest group and won the only double-double of the group. It is still possibility that 3 teams of group C would be in the semis! So what is the meaning of this grade? Another underrated Spur? Or just undderated Slovene? Which is worse? Tut, I mean!

Primoz Brezec C- And that is based on statistics of one game, writer even forgot foul trouble in game against Greece. When that taken into account, he would be even a D? Do not forget Darko got B+, and that was given for 15min performance??

Getting NBA gradings in Eurobasket is like apples and oranges. Double-doubles are rare, dishing is hardly easy and quarters are two minutes shorter. I guess ESPN never told that to their writer? ESPN does not televise this tournament, I guess. Commentator would tell him at least such information, wouldn't it?

    How is this surprising?

Calling Tony Parker a leader is like calling Shaq a professional......when the going gets tough, the French get going.........

Parker is not exerting himself. Frankly I wish he was off the court altogether.

Those are bad stats! 25.9% fg%? Ouch.

I think Tony is just trying to do too much at once. Also, he knows the team sucks and isn't going to the championship so he might have probably pulled a Mcgrady/Carter and gone AWOL on the team. (Not that I'm saying that's right)

It is not harder, but there is no run and gun. Do you think Nash could get all those assists with defensive oriented team?

Gettin different statistics and making different strategies does not mean being harder...just different. I talk of incompetence and not bad grades. If Kirilenko has A and neither in Greek team has a B by that standard, how come you can expect Greece will win?

Euroball is not a different game, but is a different playing ground (smaller).
    So relax.

To even more help my argument... Greece has won against AK47, and some more NBA stars with good grades.

Greek Player of the match would have an F also. Grade A of Greece had a sorry thing for a game. Moreover Kirilenko would still deserve his A grade even when this game was over, making 20pt, 16rb, 3bl, 2st 2 as. So grades are not worth a gentle on my part. COUSE RUSSIANS ARE OUT.
ICE COLD BREWSKI, I hope you see what I mean. You must look at Eurobasket to grade players. Even now people in Europe are raving on Marko Jarič who is accused to destroying the harmony of his national team by his behaviour. On court with his stats he is B- player? And Radmanovic, the other sorry excuse for a team player, had even a B? ICE COLD BREWSKI i hope you cannot get behind such grades...

I would like to think highly of you. At least one in a while.

My only point was that ESPN has ruined their crediblity with me. I don't take anything they say seriously.
