For the one who voted for GP, why do you think he will be a better backup PG than NVE?
Nick Van Exel
Gary Payton
Assuming JWill will start for MIA. I ask, who will be the better backup PG this year. NVE or GP??
For the one who voted for GP, why do you think he will be a better backup PG than NVE?
Not a very fair comparison. Van Exel is 2 years younger and will most likely get more minutes than Payton.
It deosn't ask who is better but who will be the better backup its perfectly fair.
Not necesarily. If I remember correctly, didnt Pop say they wanted to use him like Robert Horry and save him for the Playoffs?
Pretty much a draw. Gary has been staying a lot healthier than Nick, so in availbility alone, Gary is more useful.
"Better" as far as what?
Points? Rebounds? Steals? Assists? Defense? All of the above?
Be a little more specific.
Definitly Turtle Payton
Better as far as who will help their team more commin off the bench.
If all we're going on is PPG, I'd have to go with Van Exel. Payton will most likely be a pass-first kind of PG considering he has guys like Shaq, Wade, Mourning, etc. But if we factor in defense, I'd have to give the nod to Payton.
Van Exel will be more valuable if that's what you mean. I won't elaborate why, or this will turn into another "Stop hating" thread.![]()
I dont hate TP, but Ihave to agree with you if you are talking about the reasons why that I think you are talking about.
I really don't think payton is that good, anymore at least. He used to be a post up kind of guard ie chauncey billups, but hes too old for that now. and the glove? more like the mitten. I don't see him doing much for miami, especially with jwill in command. I respect jwill but hes definitely going to have the ball at all times, and when he doesn't walker, wade, and shaq will. that leaves no room for gary.
Here's what will make Van Exel a better back up..
Gregg Popovich.
i dont like payton
bull !!!
TP will be back-up for Beno![]()
Since they'll both be backups, I'd value how their behavior on the bench will be. Van Exel's behaviour should be >>> than Payton's crying and ing all the time. So NVE.

That was funny.
