Poll: Fewer than half think U.S. will win in Iraq
Nearly two-thirds support a full or partial U.S. withdrawal

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Thursday indicated fewer than half of Americans believe the United States will win the Iraq war, and 55 percent of those surveyed said it should speed up withdrawal plans.

Only 21 percent said the United States definitely would win the war in Iraq, which began when a U.S.-led coalition invaded in 2003 to topple Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Another 22 percent said they thought the United States probably would win.

Another 20 percent of respondents said the United States was capable of winning in Iraq -- but probably would not. And 34 percent said they considered the war unwinnable.

The survey of 818 adults was conducted Friday through Sunday and had a sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.

I remember when not supporting the war wasn't kosher. Now it's trendy.

The bigger question is can the world win the war against terrorism. Iraq happens to be one of the main battlegrounds where this war is taking place (which happens to be a better option than fighting it on our soil).

The fate of the world hinges on destroying this sordid, maniacal enemy of freedom. Occupying known terrorist fortresses, which equates in part to areas in the middle east, and engaging and destroying the terrorists is one of the means by which this is accomplished.

Is it winnable? I don't like the alternative, nor does the rest of the free world, so the battle continues...

    Let's see...

21% said we will definitely win.
22% said we will probably win.
20% said we are capable of winning but probably won't. I find it interesting that they don't give a reason why we probably won't...could it be because they believe our anti-war idiots will cause us to pull out with our job undone? We'll never know now will we?

But anyway...that looks to me like 63% believe we can win and only 34% believe we can't...the headline is framed nicely....

But it should read...only 34% of Americans believe the war is unwinnable.

    whottt is spot on.

Take notice people, this is what we TRUTH spitters like to call LIBERAL BIAS.

Dan is not only a member, I believe he is the president.

Not only will the United States help the IRAQI PEOPLE TO WIN THIS WAR, but wait for all the HATING LIBERALS that are pointing their fingers at President Bush to IMMEDIATELY POINT THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE when it comes time to GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE. They'll say luck or some other bull . They will not mention anything about Our Presidents RESOLVE and COMMITMENT in the FACE OF ALL THE HATER CRITICISM.

I do agree with one point...it is time to start withdrawing troops from the cities where the Iraqi police forces are established. Move those troops to Iraqi border patrol and infrastructure protection duties.

As the borders become secure, as the roaches that are causing havoc come out and get squashed by our special forces....our troops can come home...slowly, but surely. Godbless America, Godbless our Troops, Godbless the Innocent, Hardworking Iraqi and Afghan People, Godbless us all.

It is impossible to win a war on terror, that I concur. But Iraq is winnable.

If we could take everyone in detention now and just like mow them down into a trench... that would help a lot..

But the current Iraqi president does not want death penalty.. which is a big problem.
He let them kill 2-4 criminals but I think that was a token ..

They where hanged in public... now if they hang saddam.. i'll pay to watch that..
