DeAndre Bembry will become the next Kawhi Leonard/LeBron James/Kevin Durant supermixture and take over the NBA. Because, well, Spurs.
Realistically though, Bembry is a very solid pick here for San Antonio. An older player out of St. Joseph’s, Bembry is an athletic wing who has a knack for making highlight plays. He can bang with the rest of the dunkers and can finish well inside.
Where Bembry has to improve at is his shooting. He shot 26.6% from three last year in college, which is a big concern as the college arc is noticeably shorter than the NBA’s arc. Also, Bembry must become more engaged defensively, as he took possessions off on occasion and, on top of that, lacked the technique to do so in the first place.
Bembry will take on a Jonathan Simmons type role on the Spurs next year, sitting at the end of the bench — most likely with a suit on — while patiently waiting his turn to become the Spurs’ next great system player.
