I know zero about this kid. I'm just going through the DX mock draft and picking names of guys who look interesting. I like that he stuffs the stat sheet while also being a play-maker. If his defense is good, I think he'd make a fine Spur -- especially as Green insurance and as a guy to put next to Anderson.

You know what, after watching the DX stuff on him, I'm actually really interested. He is the first prospect (except maybe Crabbe) that I think could replace what Green gives to the Spurs. He just seems to have everything except polish. I wouldn't hate a scenario where the Spurs trade with like Boston, Denver or Utah to pick up Sabonis for Green and then coming back to draft Bemdry at 29. Like Leonard/Joseph all over again. Obviously, the Spurs would need a better starting two-guard than a rookie, but it would be a very fascinating start to the off-season.

What's not to like about this kid, outside of that hair .

He can score, be a playmaker, and plays very good defense (though he gets a little handsy from it seems, which may cause him to get dumb fouls in the NBA but is correctable by coaching and experience) has ideal size for a shooting guard & can play the 3. He also looks like he's a quiet kid, and gym rat from his Twitter like Kawhi is.

I don't like his age, and he's an older Junior (Maybe that, and going to a smaller school is why he's project to go late 1st) but his maturity and feel for the game is pretty damn good for his age.

A lot of really good things coming from people who have seen him play much more than we do especially his playmaking ability. Packing on some muscle would be ideal.

Def Pen: 2016 NBA Mock Draft 3.0: Simmons Remains on Top by Austin Reed, 16 May 2016

    29) San Antonio Spurs- DeAndre Bembry (St. Joseph’s)
Bembry breaks up the run of big guys here towards the end of the first round. He is a perfect fit for the Spurs as a guy with High IQ that rebounds well for a 6’6 wing. He also showed the ability to pass well averaging 4.5 his last year at St. Joe’s.

    29. San Antonio Spurs—DeAndre Bembry (SG/SF St. Joseph’s)

All around, Bembry is a lot better of a player than this draft slot but nothing is through the roof and his shooting could use some work. He’s the type of player the Spurs could stash toward the end of the bench, never hurt them in limited minutes and show up in a few years a much better player when asked to play a bigger role.

Fansided: NBA Mock Draft 2016: Sixers, Lakers Go Chalk; Timberwolves Get Their Shooter
by Will Long 4 hours ago [AKA 6 June 2016]

    29. San Antonio Spurs: DeAndre Bembry, St. Joseph’s

DeAndre Bembry will become the next Kawhi Leonard/LeBron James/Kevin Durant supermixture and take over the NBA. Because, well, Spurs.

Realistically though, Bembry is a very solid pick here for San Antonio. An older player out of St. Joseph’s, Bembry is an athletic wing who has a knack for making highlight plays. He can bang with the rest of the dunkers and can finish well inside.

Where Bembry has to improve at is his shooting. He shot 26.6% from three last year in college, which is a big concern as the college arc is noticeably shorter than the NBA’s arc. Also, Bembry must become more engaged defensively, as he took possessions off on occasion and, on top of that, lacked the technique to do so in the first place.

Bembry will take on a Jonathan Simmons type role on the Spurs next year, sitting at the end of the bench — most likely with a suit on — while patiently waiting his turn to become the Spurs’ next great system player.

CBS Sports: NBA Mock Draft 2016: Washington's Marquese Chriss soars into top 10
Washington's Marquese Chriss could go as high as No. 3, but this mock sees him going to the Kings at No. 8

    29. SAN ANTONIO SPURS
DeAndre' Bembry, SF, Saint Joseph's: Bembry was, by all accounts, terrific at the combine. He tested well and played magnificently in the five-on-five games. His ability to guard multiple positions at the NBA level should prove useful, and the way Bembry sees the floor and passes could allow him to, at times, play the role of point-forward.

Watching ESPNU NBA Combine scrimmage the one play that stood out was on defense, Bembry gets crossed up a bit but was able to recover and get the block from behind (showed to me he doesn't quit on plays). Everything else was as advertised on offense.

You mean not a very good shooter but a good passer?
I actually like him very much, just his shooting is a concern.

The regression in his FG% is a concern, but the Spurs will only draft him if Chip believes his shot can be fixed.

Anyway, if he has been shooting a good percentage, he'll be selected well before the Spurs' 29th pick.

(Bembry) and Denzel Valentine are similar all-around players (though Valentine's higher draft ranking comes from his much better shooting) but Bembry has the athleticism, sneaky or not, that Valentine lacks - he can hold his own on defense in ways Valentine won't.

Bembry has a lot of facets of his game that could make him a really good pro. Others have made the comparison to Jimmy Butler and I can see why. I don't know that he'll get there but there are elements of their games that are similar, and he's got both the swagger and the work ethic to make those strides. Even if he doesn't reach those heights, as one of those glue guys who can keep the ball active and take advantage of spacing I think he has a long career ahead of him. I expect someone like the Spurs to take Bembry and for him to be a good player for a decade. OKC would be a really interesting place for him to land as well.

He likes being the all-around player. He likes doing everything. It's hard to find players who want to do the grunt work of rebounds and setting other people up for glory but can also score when necessary. As we talk about a lot of the players in this draft being one-sided players, here is one prospect who can do multiple things. If the Denver coaches can get him to do those multiple things well, that's how players like Kawhi Leonard are made.

Bembry is definitely a sleeper pick to keep an eye on.
