I was in Bakersfield a few days ago. We eat at a little home owned restaurant in Oildale (across the bridge). On the wall a picture of the owner with Merle, they played in the same band back in the day.

This is a sad day for country music, as we know he was right up there with Hank, Lefty, Willie, Waylon, Johnny and Patsy.

    My fav Merle Haggard.

Been on a country music kick since the death of Hag. A few gems, I highly recommend.

    Wayward Stranger...Porter Wagoner
Brain Cloudy...Merle Haggard ....a great cover of the Bo Wills classic.
    Always On My Mind...Willie Nelson
Poncho & Lefty...Willie & Hag....cover of the Towns Van Zandt gem.
Wilie, Waylon, Kristofferson and Cash...The Highwaymen
In the Pines...Bill Monroe.....Lead Belly would be proud.
House of the Rising Sun...Waylon Jennings,as good as it gets.
    There Goes My Everything...Jack Greene
    Almost Pursuaded...David Houston
    End of the World...Skeeter Davis
    Ode to Billy Joe.....Bobbie Gentry
    Long Black Veil...Lefty Frizzell
    Ramblin' Man...Hank Wiliams

At 2:40, that is Townes Van Zandt who wrote the tune.

One of my best friends is a guy named Roy, he used to play bass in a heavy metal band around here called The Whitman Sampler (yep, the candy) he was a huge Hag fan, and down below was his favorite. He took it pretty hard, actual lip quiver and misty eyed. You'd never guess he was a fan of a country singer.
