The Parisian team hasn’t provided yet the files requested to be engaged in Pro A and could not be allowed to play in Pro A in the upcoming season. Although Paris Basket Racing is expected to play its first game next Wednesday at Adecco ASVEL, the roster is not complete despite the hiring of both forwards American Altron Jackson (198-G-80, college: S.Florida) and Austrian Bernd Volcic (209-F-76, agency: Interperformances, college: New Orleans).

After the French Basketball League refused twice to engage the Parisian team in Pro A during the summer, French Basketball Federation finally decided to allow Paris Basket Racing to play in the first division. But yesterday, the League once again indicated that Paris Basket Racing has not provided the financial files requested to be engaged in Pro A, and asked the Federation to reconsider its position concerning the Parisian team. If Paris Basket Racing is not engaged in Pro A, only 17 teams will compete in the first division in the upcoming season. If the Parisian team is not allowed to play in Pro A, the club may disappear. This would be the end of professional basketball in Paris.

Despite rumors saying that Paris Basket Racing has tried to delay its first games of the season because the team is not ready, the Parisian club has signed several players since its coach-magician Gordon Herbert came back in the French capital. Answering a question during the French League’s press conference new Paris Basket Racing point guard T.J. Parker (187-G-84, college: Northwestern) indicated that 9 players are under contract but he wasn’t able to name all of them. Following the signing of Parker, Paris Basket Racing extended the contract of John Linehan (175-G-78, college: Providence) and Victor Samnick (201-F-79, college: Georgetown). The Parisian front office also signed former youth team members Robert Rothbart (216-C-86), Xavier Corosine (206-C-85) and A'Nsi Lema (197-G/F-84) to their professional contract.

To complete its frontcourt, Paris Basket Racing signs American power-forward Altron Jackson (198-G-80, college: S.Florida). Graduated from South Florida in 2002, he is the all-time best scorer of the Conference USA and averaged 18.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game during his senior season. Following a first professional season shared between Hungary and the NBDL, he spent the last two seasons with Telekom Baskets Bonn, averaging 14.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in 2004-05, finishing Bundesliga third-best rebounder. Despite being undersized, he is quick, has long arms and is known as a very good defender. Gordon Herbert was the head coach of the Frankfurt Skyliners during the 2004-05 season and he had the opportunity to scout Altron Jackson (198-G-80, college: S.Florida).

Despite being the coach of Austrian team Oberwart in 1999-00, Gordon Herbert didn’t coach his new player Bernd Volcic (209-F-76, agency: Interperformances, college: New Orleans) there. Volcic started his career in Oberwart, despite spending a year in New Orleans University, but signed with Gent in 1999. He then played the next five years with Mons-Hainaut in Belgium. Last season, he averaged 8.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in the Belgian League. He loves to shoot from beyond the arc but can also play in the paint thanks to his height.

According to local newspaper Le Parisien, Paris Basket Racing has shown an interest in American center Ken Johnson (210-C-78, agency: Octagon, college: Ohio St.) who averaged 11.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game in Pro A with Bourg last season. Daily sports newspaper L’Equipe also revealed on Wednesday that Paris Basket Racing has shown an interest in American power-forward Kendall Dartez (208-C/F-80, college: Louisville), who graduated from Louisville University one year ago averaging only 5.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game during his senior year. Last season, he played in South Korea. Last summer, he was a member of the San Antonio Spurs Summer League team and played in the Rocky Mountain Review. Paris Basket Racing coach Gordon Herbert was a member of the Spurs Summer League team coaching staff. L’Equipe also indicated that PBR is looking for an American guard.

Are most of these players American? Is there a limit as to how many foreign born players can be on one team in this league? Seems like a college pick up team with little international experience to me.
