Worst. Thread. le. Ever.
It's a completely hypothetical scenario of "What if Thibs had taken the Lakers job and given the pitch?". He wasn't and he didn't.
By Woj, its TRUE!LaMarcus Aldridge was dying for the Lakers to blow him away in a free-agent presentation on July 1 and left the room deflated over the parade of marketing and partnership suits that sold him on the residual impacts of playing for the Lakers. Had that been a Tom Thibodeau basketball presentation to Aldridge, there are those who believe Aldridge would’ve been swayed to sign there.

No it wasn't. Spurs were. LMA son live in San Antonio. His mother lives in Dallas, one-hour flight, 3-4 hour drive depending on how fast you drive. I don't think the Blazers were ever in the mix after their owner said they wanted to build the team around Lillard and didn't even mention LMA.
The reports came from HIS TEAMMATES the Spurs were his top choice, back in April last year. I discounted it at first, but when I learned that LMA son lives here, that totally changed the picture for me.
The Lakers were NEVER LMA's first choice. Furthermore, Tom Thibodeau has won what as a Head Coach? His reputation with players is that he is a defensive- minded hard-ass that wears his players out. Yep, sign LMA up. Pffft.
Is that the real Woj or leftys friend Wojtek???
What a stupid thought IMO.
Too many hypotheticals. I guess its a very slow NBA round 1 IMO. ty take by Wojtek
People are misreading the Thibs part. They weren't saying that he would be the coach. They were saying that if he had gotten an analytical basketball presentation -- in a way I guess Thibs is known to give -- he'd've signed there. It's not that far-fetched, as he did give them the first chance. He also really wanted to be the face of the franchise, as his Phoenix foray showed. He might be a Laker had he hit free agency this summer rather than last.
IT's a metaphor. Or a fantasy. Either WOJ is inventing a hypothetical (if the lakers had made a serious ask he would have chosen to go there) or it's one of those, "well several years ago when the Lakers had great talent Thibs would absolutely want to coach them, but now that's its a garbage fire he'll never considered it"
oh wait we're walking about last year peak rejection. Seems like every year there is a new embarrassing rejection for that franchise. Hard to keep track
Glad he signed here. He and Kawhi will continue to keep us relevant for many years.
I don't care if LMA was having sex with Kobe Bryant surrounded by burning Tim Duncan jerseys that they would both pee on for their post coitis piss every night before going to San Antonio. He's been a great Spur and if the Spurs ring I would be willing to make Kobe and LMA's tricycle complete.
Here's a yahoo article from last November about LMA's free agency and his decision for the Spurs.

Regardless of what his first choice was, it was pretty common knowledge at the time that he was hoping for the Lakers to make an offer he couldn't refuse. Instead they showed him how much money he could make on a team while Kobe treated him like a second banana. Word is his car left a cloud of tire smoke leaving the parking lot.
Bey mah PAU! Bey mah PAU!
Maybe the man likes his pussy. Hard to blame him...
Another loss for the loser franchise of this decade LMAO
I don't buy that, but I've never gotten the sense that Aldridge really wanted to be a Spur, either (Simmons too; as opposed to West, Marjanovic, Martin and Miller) and if they had their druthers, they'd probably have preferred that Gasol or Horford, be the one available to them. It probably was/is a marriage of convenience.
He wanted to make the max, play closer to home, have a legitimate chance to win a championship and do so while not being entirely overshadowed by a name like James, Durant or Curry. The Spurs are the only team that checked all of the boxes.
SA was his first choice last April after getting shipped out of the playoffs last year. He told people left and right in Portland he was gone to SA.
He took the other meetings out of respect for the process and for their time. He was SLIGHTLY intrigued by Phoenix, but not enough to make them a serious contender.
