It was pretty inspiring. I have to say this championship was the toughest of the 3 for sure.

Looking back on how much trouble Detroit gave us, I am thinking Spurs fans who don't consider them our chief rival for the next year at least are doing some serious wishful thinking; they are young enough in their core, and have a firm foundation at defense. The players there LIKE to play defense. They forced us into countless turnovers with their length and ability to crowd the lane. Lucky for us Manu was hitting at a career pace from 3pt land, and that Horry had a career playoff game against them.

That said, with Fin and Van Excel here, two of our main issues are addressed; who can spell Parker reliably, and who is going to provide scoring punch off the bench.

With Oberto we will (hopefully) have yet another option and skill set to use in the front court.

I'm optimistic (who wouldn't be), and watching the DVD was great, but I'm not going to go so far as to say we should be prohibative favorites over the Pistons.

I agree the Pistons should remain our chief rivals until another eastern conference team defeats them in the playoffs, but we have yet to see how they will respond to their new coach. It's difficult to maintain their level of defense without a determined coach preaching that mantra all season long. I'm not certain Flip is that coach.

I was going to write some crap about how the East and West are more equal now in terms on talent, blah, blah, blah, but it.

The Spurs are the best team in the NBA. Period. No other team, East or West, is close.

If the Spurs don't win it all again this year, I will be very surprised (and disappointed).

I still think the Spurs, after walking over Phoenix and just killing Detroit for two games, fell asleep, as they are known to do. They managed to win two of the next five playing really uninspired basketball, and the series was therefore much closer than it would have been had the Spurs not started picking out champagne after two games. The Spurs will only go as far as they decide to go in any given season. I don't see anyone beating them if they take care of business.
