*long ago. My bad.
I pretty much just turned on the TV one day back in 08 and they were playing the Celtics. Doc was talking about how the Spurs were the defending champs and that they'd be a tough out in the playoffs. Never really followed sports before that day but something about the Spurs just drew me in.
Been a fan since I've been in this city. Too young for the 99 championship but was able to enjoy 2003 onwards.
1999. Somewhere during their le run, before the Memorial Day Miracle but I don't remember exactly when. I was 9 years old living in SA. After that first le I followed them every year. My parents were die hard fans, it was only a matter of time before it filtered down to me.
ElNono: "When did Manu get drafted?"
Started following watching since I was 8 in 95'. Remembered watching Robinson getting punked by Hakeem and Horry bombing 3's in Houston. Mr Duncan came into the league and have been spoiled with success ever since.
When I was in Junior high My Dad took me to a Spurs game against the Bucks the season before the Admiral joined the Spurs. Growing up in Austin I would go to 10 to 12 games per year. Now that I live up North in Minnesota I still try to go to several of the road games within driving distance and I also try to come to San Antonio once or twice a year for Spurs games.
I have been a spurs fan since the spring of '94 which was before Duncan. I became a spurs fan after watching an NBC game way back in '94 which was Magic vs Spurs. Back then Michael had retired so just like every other kid in elementary school I was looking for a new team to root for. For some odd reason even as a kid I hated Shaq. I remember watching David Robinson dominate him in that game and make him look silly. I also liked Rodman's hair colors as a kid along with the way he played the game. Robinson and Rodman got me hooked on being a spurs fan. Ever since that game I have been a fan.
Early 2000's. I saw a David Robinson post game interview and thought he seemed like an amazing person. Decided to start rooting for them at that moment. Before that I had just rooted for Jordan as a kid.
This one time I won tickets at a poker game to the 2002 playoffs. Alamodome.
That was back when there were battle blogs and legit posts.
Back when Duff was jewing JimCS out of 1000's of dollars on a weekly basis and that one older blonde chick was blowing dudes at GTGs
good times.
My dad is a huge celtics fan. Probably why i was watching boston that day.![]()
really young, somethin like 5 years old, family was watching a basketball game (lakers) and being the Philo i am, i decided i didn't want to root for them. i asked my dad what basketball team is most like the raiders and he told me the spurs wear black jerseys, and that was enough of a selling point for me. a couple of months later the spurs drafted duncan and my dad was telling me how my favorite team got this really good college player
obviously at that age i didnt really watch that many games, but i do recall much of the 98-99 playoff run, we always had playoff games on in the house. we didnt really get any spurs games outside of national TV, but i would get the paper every day as a kid and read the sports section cover to cover
I can't pinpoint it because I was about 6-7 years old. It was around 1991-92 and I remember some of the Spurs players visiting my elementary school. I remember seeing how tall they were and cool they looked.
I then began watching them on tv, but I remember being an MJ fan as well. But little by little, my devotion was only to the Spurs.
I remember the first real heartbreak i felt was when they lost to the Rockets in 1995. I couldn't believe the Spurs had lost 2 games at home.
First team I followed, even before Toronto had an NBA team. Maybe around '94.
Since like 94 or 95. My first game I went to The worm was on the team and I got his jersey and rocked it all the time in 2nd grade.
Around 1994 or so because of DRob.
I really got into it in 99. I took a break for a while then picked back up in 2003. Traveled in 2004 so didn't watch any games, but settled back into Texas in 2005 where I really started studying the game. Was in a bad accident in 2006 that had me in the hospital for nearly a year, but when I got out in 2007 I made it a big deal to appreciate life and went to a lot of games.
Had a lot going on in my life after that and unfortunately didn't really truly start being a fan again until 2014.
Became a fan as a kid in the 90s because I got a kids book about David Robinson. Been a fan ever since.
when i was born i was airlifted to san antonio so my dad drove there and met D-Rob at a carwash.
Mid 90s, we moved to Central Texas and started spending more time back in San Antonio for family. This also coincided with the Admiral, who was already one of my favorite players, so I just started really digging the Spurs.
i was a Lakerfan growing up, Magic is still a top 3 favorite, but when the trifecta of assholes took over, I couldn't root for them even though they started winning more. Especially after the 2002 debacle.
So something about the Spurs and the culture resonated for me and been a fan since then.
unless your serious about the accident. then i'm sorry.
2003. the playoffs were right around the corner. figured it'd be a good enough time to start watching.
we were the #1 seed going up against an 8th seeded suns team. game 1 came down to the wire. we lost because marbury got a rebound from a missed free throw... ran down the court and made a buzzer beating three.
i remember being so confused. i was like, 'is this... a thing that happens?'
since then i'd say it's a really safe bet to say i've seen at least... 85% of regular season games and about 95% of playoff games.

Was a fan right before the Spurs merged into the NBA IN 76. Use to love the ABA's red, white, and blue ball.
Sometime between 1991-93. I was watching NBA Inside stuff and they did a segment on David Robinson. I decided right then and there that he was going to be my favorite player and being really young I figured whatever team my favorite player was on should be my fave team. It was really random since I was born & raised in Miami.
