Mexican cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman is one step closer to facing charges in the United States after Mexico’s secretariat of foreign relations, or SRE, said the Sinaloa cartel boss can be extradited.

The decision, first reported by the Associated Press, doesn’t mean a deal is set in stone however because Guzman’s attorney’s have the right to appeal the transfer. A final decision could still be weeks away.

Texas remains on the list of places Guzmán could end up, although the offices of multiple U.S. Attorneys, including the Western District of Texas, have charges pending against the cartel leader. He is also wanted in Chicago, San Diego, New York and Miami.

The Associated Press reported that American authorities agreed Guzman would not face the death penalty if convicted in an American court.

Did El Chapo fail to make large enough bribe payments to the right people?
Or did the other cartels out bid him?

It's the political embarrassment of having him escape twice. They don't want a third and know they can't stop it in the Mexican jails.

    Let the games begin.

A judge in Mexico has temporarily halted the extradition of cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman to the US after his lawyers filed appeals.

Mexico agreed to transfer Guzman in May after the US guaranteed he would not face the death penalty.

But the ruling means it could be months or even years before he is sent to the US, where he faces murder and drug smuggling charges.
Guzman is being held in a maximum security prison near the US border.

One of the appeals argues that the statute of limitations has run out on some crimes Guzman is accused of in the US, his lawyer Jose Refugio Rodriguez told Associated Press.

Guzman's defence also argues some of the accusations lack direct evidence.

El Chapo probably has so much dirt on not only Mexican but U.S. judges and law enforcement.

Eating prime rib served by pros utes as we speak.
