I just wanted to share my story here for what it's worth...

I come from half way across the globe from SA, and I quite randomly began being a Spurs fan around 95/96 when I was 10 years old and David Robinson was literally my first favorite player. I was obviously young back then but my older bro is a huge NBA fan too and through him I became a fan of the game and of the Spurs. Obviously since then I've been a huge Spurs and Tim Duncan fan, waking up in the early mornings to watch big Spurs games - including a huge majority of all playoff games over the last 14-15 years.

This May, as some of you may remember since I posted on here, I finally visited SA to watch my Spurs. I was in the USA for the first time since the late 90s and decided I was not gonna waste my chance at watching a Spurs game no matter what it entailed. I flew from Boston through Atlanta and to San Antonio for 1 night, literally 24 hours. It was Game 5 of the Thunder series, as you all know a stunning loss... I couldn't help but think how unlucky I was to see a Spurs home loss since it was so rare this season. But I was absolutely thrilled and overwhelmed with the experience, finally getting to see my childhood idol Timmy along with Manu Parker Kawhi and Pop. What a pleasure it was to see my Spurs and Timmy fight out a tough series despite the loss (and horrible referees who probably cost us the series).

Leaving the AT&T Center, all I could think of was would I ever make it back here again or would this be my one and only visit in my life. If so, Thank God I was able to do this and see Tim because who knows if he's retiring or coming back for one more season. I took my sweet time, snapping photos and videos, taking selfies, shopping and buying Spurs gear from the store before heading back to my hotel. I remember my halftime conversation while eating those fried chicken fingers with a sweet married couple who were absolutely shocked that I would be a Spurs fan from the Middle East, coming to SA to watch this game for 1 night on my own.

Reflecting on this now only 2 months later, I realize how wrong I was about being unlucky to witness the home loss. I was maybe the luckiest person ever, making my way to San Antonio for my first and maybe only visit ever, and it was Tim Duncan's final home game ever. Wow. I get goosebumps just thinking of this. Never in my life would I have imagined unknowingly being there for Tim's last home game. Even then, I just assumed the Spurs would bounce back in Game 6 and take Game 7 back at home. I just couldn't see the loss.

For the past few days, after work I have literally just spent my time on my laptop, on Twitter following the latest quotes and news on Timmy, reading beautifully written articles and watching beautifully crafted video tributes, following Pop's press conference, and Duncan's interview. Thank you Timmy, for being such an amazing player and role model to fans across the world. I am so lucky to have stumbled on and fell in love with this franchise, which has given me so many wonderful moments as a fan. Cheers to TD on his retirement, and here's hoping he gets involved somehow with the Spurs as Pop said. Following the NBA and Spurs without Tim Duncan is going to be quite weird, like something is always missing...

I'm also sure there's so much more to come from this team and hopefully more championships. Looking forward to the ride and for the next years as Kawhi's franchise.

There are two or three other threads with this kind of stuff in it. I think they're all on the front page. If you don't read anyone else's , why do you expect them to read yours?

I made the trip in 2014 and did the Texas Triangle for the 3 of their last 4 games of the season, watched them seal the number 1 seed and homecourt for the playoffs.

It was a pilgramage for me. Like yourself I became a Spurs fan in 92 with Robinson a childhood hero. Before the Internet, reading 1 line NBA scores in the back of our local newspapers, buying monthly magazines to keep up with the leagues goings on. I danced around my lounge room half way across the globe when Elliott hit the Memorial Day miracle. I shed a tear when Robinson said farewell in 2003. In 2005 I sat glued to a computer screen watching box scores as we won another. I stood behind my couch in 2007 scared Lebron would somehow turn the series, but watched as Duncan fell to the ground hugging Oberto as it became clear we had won again.
In 2013... I watched game 6... and chocked back tears as it slipped away.
In 2014 after having returned to Australia for the playoffs, I sat with my two sons and shared with them the joy of redemption.

I got most of the teams autographs on my visit, except for Kawhi, Tony and of course Timmy. He signed for the guy next to me but then headed in the opposite direction. I yelled out "I've come 16,000km... can't you walk back 5 metres"... he looked back and gave a smirk which was as good as an autograph. Now as he has decided to retire... I wish I'd simply said "thankyou".

Good story. I'm always amazed by fans with incredible stories like yours. I was lucky enough to live in SA for a few years and went to tons of games, however I do regret never being able to sit courtside. I was actually saving up to do this next year but unfortunately Timmy called it quits. Happy for Tim though as he deserves every second of a reclusive, boring retirement.

Great story about the unplanned -- the serendipity of travel and sports.

I read almost everything. This is my own story, quite a special story when you think of it, and so doesn't need to be on the "Timmy retires" or "Thank you" columns... It's not up to you where I should put my own story out...

That's amazing! I didn't get any autographs, but my brother has got me some autographs of Spurs players in Boston since he lives there.

That's too bad, but you're so lucky to have been to many Spurs games! You can always go again and sit courtside, without Timmy being there...

I didn't read it, because I don't give a . And it's not up to me, but you got a little blubbery that nobody was responding to it, and I was explaining why.
