Ducks linked an article about the owners want a franchise tag to prevent players like Durant being punks.

The article argues the player union will fight.

So I think the following compromise could work.

No franchise tag unless you commit to max salary. Must notify player One season prior. Player has a limited time to deny franchise (essentially they are agreeing to an extension at that point).

If the player denies franchise tag they are a free agent. But regardless of what and where they sign they will hit their team's cap with a penalty. A player can resign with their old team at any point during free agency. No penalty for resigning.

Teams may only have two franchise tagged contracts at once and can only exercise it every three years. If you obtain a tagged player (one who denied extending with their old team) counts as that team exercising a franchise tag.

This will limit the nba teams to two stars.

Anyway, does anyone think we'll see a compromise like this? Or will it be simpler...?

Well that's the article. It also says:
    .

That doesn’t mean the league is satisfied, though want one thing,” said one player agent, referring to the owners. “They want a higher percentage than 50 percent [of BRI]. That’s it.”

I thought there wouldn't be a lockout,, and who knows who is bluffing. But this is a crazy argument to say that ownership wants to further screw the players. Maybe it's negotiating. After several hours of debating profit sharing, maybe the franchise tag is the compromise. Hard to estimate the owner's savvy. Last time Holt was a big player, he's retired. It'll be interesting to see which owners drive the bargain.

You know how this is. Both sides are going to ask for the moon. Work stoppage, then they'll sit down and actually talk... then Fish is going to backstab somebody from the union, the owners get a sweet deal, he gets another coaching job... rinse and repeat 4 years later...

Fisher is no longer with the Union. CP3 is now the president of the Union.

They could add a non-compete clause do ent. That would still allow them to sign with the Lakers.
