Tim Kaine Says Hillary Was Careless With Email

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, Hillary Clinton's running mate, said she had been careless in handling classified emails using a private email server during her time as secretary of state.

In a CBS News interview, Kaine noted that FBI Director James Comey called her actions "careless" and he thinks "she would acknowledge that. She said, 'Look, it was a mistake, and I've learned from it, and I'd do something different.'"

It appeared that Kaine contradicted Clinton's earlier statement. Interviewer Norah O'Donnell pointed out that in an interview with Charlie Rose, Clinton was at odds over Comey's words on whether she was careless.

O'Donnell asked Kaine why Clinton would continue to debate Comey's meaning. "Why continue to twist the knife on that thing? Why continue to feed those perceptions that she's not answering truthfully?"

Politifact pointed out that Comey did not say Clinton had been truthful. He said that, "We have no basis to conclude that she lied to the FBI."


Kaine pointed out again that Clinton said publicly and told him, "I made a mistake, I screwed up, I've learned something, and I'll do it differently . . . That's been the way she's pitched it to me. I think that's the honest response, and I've heard her say that a number of times
