I don't know about bigotry, but simple politics. He's basically taking advantage of the ignorant peeps that think he's fighting the federal government, despite the fact there's little to nothing he can do about that.

Ultimately, in the short term, refugees don't vote, tbh...

I agree it's an empty gesture, immigration of war refugees to Texas will continue with or without help from state government.

I disagree that he isn't giving comfort to cowards and bigots. Bigotry is an electoral wedge and by now it's pretty clear which party is pandering to the bigots.

post Reconstruction through to the 1960s, white supremacy was ideologically explicit and a pillar of social order in Texas.

it isn't that far beneath the surface now, tbh.

the fig leaf of security is more security blanket than security related.

war refugees present a negligible threat to public safety -- state officials demanding guarantees of total safety from the US Government are pandering to bigots, cowards and idiots, pure and simple.

relative to the mouth breathing bigots in question? of course your version of peer pressure is to denigrate those you see as fighting for social justice.

Abbot just whips my ass. I thought he might be a little more palatable than Perry. My bad.

I didn't. He's the AG that was trying to sneak through court all the stupid things Perry wanted done. Gerrymandering was at the top of the list.

Did they ever not, though? Doesn't make it right (and the other party certainly isn't without guilt either), but the PC era seems to have just merely temporarily closeted it. At least, that appears to be one of the readings off the new anti-PC movement.
