HRC is getting a high of 43% and Trump is getting a low of 39% across the polls. Granted the averages show Trump up ~4 points. Trump is bad enough it is possible he loses Texas nonetheless.

Someone made a good point in one of those youtube videos I came across the other day. Dude said Texas will at some point be a blue state because of the younger generation coming of age and having a more liberal view.

I tend to agree with that. It also helps that Texas hispanic population is ever growing. Trump really did some damage within that group. The GOP is ed if they dont correct that mistake within the next few years.

Agreed. I'm just surrounded by whole flock of ducks who think Trump is still going to win.

The fear of every white Texas with an (R)

Its like , they may pull the same crap we have pulled on them. I find it amusing with the demographic shift. Actually if San Antonio is an example of the rest of Texas, the transition might be very smooth as there are more and more "mixed marriages" . It is also very possible as Hispanics gain wealth they go (R). The hard work, family values, education themes does resonate with those fortunate enough to enter the mainstream economy.

This. All the urban centers (Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston) are blue. It's the outlying suburban sprawl that makes Texas red. The urban centers are growing at paces that should match if not exceed the 'burbs. Plus you have to factor in out of state immigration (i.e., CA, IL, NY) and the rising hispanic population (in Houston, whites are now the minority), and Texas will be blue sooner rather than later.

I agree with this. I think the automatic assumption that hispanics will be owned by the Democrats forever is a fallacy. San Antonio is a great example. We have been diverse so long here there is virtually no difference between working middle/upper class whites/hispanics in SA.

IF all things stay the same, but Texas turns blue? Game over. Democrats would hold too much advantage to lose the White House. A single party nation would be a disaster. I don't care how red or blue you are, or how much you are convinced your team has all the answers. A single party dominant nation, with a bunch of auto-votes for either party, would end us.

I agree with that in the abstract. But I don't see the single party scenario happening: just look at the tensions within each party (GOP vs. TEA Party, Dems vs. Bernie Bros). I think you'll see progress towards the left overall, but I don't share your fears that we'll have one Party.

So are you voting for Hillary to keep single party domination from happening this election? Because a Trump win would guarantee it.

I could see it happening for a couple of election cycles until the GOP is willing to court the Latino vote. I'm not sure that happens until the Limbaugh/Hannity/Beck listener crowd starts dying off though, they have to move away from the southern strategy, which is suicide in the short term with the fears GOP candidates have of being primaried.

GOP needs to shut the up about social issues period. The abortion/gay rights/religion is poison to moderates.

I still don't understand how controlling our borders and controlling immigration has to be an anti-hispanic position.

Trump is pretty clearly anti-Hispanic, and it's what is selling well with the GOP's base. But aside from Trump, I think the big problem with the GOP's stance on immigration is they want to punish the Mexicans who cross the border but not the Americans that hire them. I have never heard anyone in the GOP say people should go to jail for hiring illegals. You're not going to stop illegal immigration if you do nothing to lower the demand for their services.

It wont last. That one party has far wing nuts on both ends as well. A split would occur imo. A maybe multiple splits like in some parliamentary democracies.

I'd offer this possible explanation (without saying that I buy it myself, necessarily):

It might sound like that to some because there's very little concern ever expressed for immigration across our northern border. Nobody talks about building a wall with Canada. If it were truly just an issue of controlling immigration, one would think that controlling the northern border would come into the conversation at some point. When the focus is solely on the border with an hispanic population, the rhetoric of "controlling our borders" and "controlling immigration," sounds a whole lot like a concern that there are too many brown people here (who might, by the way, end up voting for Democrats).

This is why the cons ution allows states to forego public voting and simply decide themselves on the electoral votes. A true democracy is mob rule. It's just a larger mob. Now it's mob rule but it's a caveat where the smaller mob can relinquish control to the larger mob who might kill them otherwise if they weren't to fat.

The GOP establishment isn't stupid - they are bowing down to the Orange Calf only because of short-term survival. In the long-term, they understand that they need to stop pandering to the religious right and the extremist fringe. That means dropping most of their social agenda and becoming more centrist. The problem is the base that has been fed BS for 3 decades.

If they lose big, I hope they sack up and purge the party of the nutcases and actually start governing by compromising with the Dems. If they get immigration reform and the grand bargain done in the next 4 years, they can expand their base beyond disaffected whites. If the Freedom Caucus continues to obstruct, they will win the midterms and lose again in 2020.
