Paul Ryan Says Medicare Privatization Is On
    By Jonathan Chait

During the campaign, coverage of the issues was blotted out by coverage of Hillary Clinton’s emails and Donald Trump’s broad suite of sociopathic tendencies. And of the issues that did receive any attention, a con uously missing one was Paul Ryan’s plan to push Medicare beneficiaries into private health insurance. Reporters just assumed that, since Trump never talked about it, it won’t happen. But Paul Ryan still wants it to happen. And in a Fox News interview with Bret Baier, Ryan said Medicare privatization is on.

“Your solution has always been to put things together, including en lement reform,” says Baier, using Republican code for privatizing Medicare. Ryan replies, “If you’re going to repeal and replace Obamacare, you have to address those issues as well. … Medicare has got some serious issues because of Obamacare. So those things are part of our plan to replace Obamacare.”

Ryan tells Baier, “Because of Obamacare, Medicare is going broke.” This is false. In fact, it’s the complete opposite of the truth. The Medicare trust fund has been extended 11 years as a result of the passage of Obamacare, whose cost reforms have helped bring health care inflation to historic lows. It is also untrue that repealing Obamacare requires changing traditional Medicare. But Ryan clearly believes he needs to make this claim in order to sell his plan, or probably even to convince fellow Republicans to support it.

No, I agree. The younger generations will get to still pay for the older generations medicare and then they'll never get it when they hit 65.

at those rural, older white Trump voters who likely rely on it.

They're gonna be in for a rude ing awakening. Manufacturing ain't coming back. Coal ain't coming back. Tax cuts ain't "trickling down."

Hopefully the Orange and his cabal of buffoons ins ute some kind of policy that cheaply (or freely) covers those people.

"They should go get another job and get their healthcare that way, like the rest of us hardworking Murricans!"

What people don't understand is that a lot seniors in those states were the demographic who in' lost everything in the financial crises, lost jobs or wages to outsourcing or immigrant labor, and are basically keeping their heads just above water on a fixed income now. Yeah, a 73 year old widow or widower is jus' gon' pull themselves up by the bootstraps and get down to it, the American way.

    Scary.

Or maybe Trump will be the hero and blow Ryan out on this idea? I can only hope.

Conway: Trump May Hold Special Session To Repeal O'care On Inauguration Day

"He also has talked about convening a special session on January 20 after he is sworn in as President of the United States to do this very thing, to repeal and replace Obamacare," she said on "Fox News Sunday."

he has suggested he will keep at least some aspects of the Affordable Care Act.

He told the Wall Street Journal that he would keep provisions that

allow children to stay on their parents' health care plans until age 26 and that

ban insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions.

And he suggested he may not push for a full repeal.

"Either Obamacare will be amended, or repealed and replaced,"

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewir...+%28TPMNews%29

    A total clown.

btw, the catch with covering pre-existing conditions is whether such people pay "community rates" or pay many times multiple of community, like $20K/month. It they pay community rates, who pays for their care?

the devil is in the details for the asshole in the White House (part time)

Donald Trump is about to face a rude awakening over Obamacare

There are no easy solutions here, no free lunches.

You can’t have all the good parts of an unregulated insurance market (freedom to buy what you want, when you want, with market pricing) without the bad parts (steadily rising premiums and insurance that is unaffordable for people who are old and sick).

At the same time, you can’t have all the good parts of a socialized system (universal coverage at affordable prices) without freedom-reducing mandates and regulations and large doses of subsidies from some people to other people.

Anyone who says otherwise — anyone promising better-quality health care at a lower cost with fewer regulations and lower taxes — is peddling hokum.

Trash/Repugs are hokum peddlers without peer.
