Looking back throughout NBA history, it seems franchises that know what they're doing usually turn things around by year three, either by making the playoffs or at the very least keeping themselves in playoff contention throughout the season, winning in the neighborhood of 35-42 games. I commend franchises like the Jazz, Celtics, Bucks, and Knicks for their improvement, which came by way of smart drafting, trades, and signings. However, I find it the highest degree of bull that incompetent franchises like the Sixers, Wolves, and Lakers will get rewarded with yet another top 5ish pick again this season (though the Lakers will lose any non-top 3 pick, i believe).

My solution would be to penalize a bottom-feeding team by taking away their first round draft pick if said team has four seasons in row in which they win less than 30 games. For example, the Sixers will likely win less than 30 games this season, their 4th in a row, and thus should not receive a first round draft pick this season.

    So who gets those picks?

The 9th seeded team with the best record and so on, meaning if two ty franchises have their picks taken away, they go to the non-playoff teams with the best record. This would stimulate a lot more compe iveness toward the end of the season when mediocre teams give up their playoff hopes and just flat out start tanking. It would also get teams like the Sixers and Lakers off of lottery welfare and motivate them to actually start trying to improve rather than just hope they luck into a generational talent through the draft.

It'll never happen, of course, but the NBA needs to do something.

    Agreed.

It's crazy how the NBA wealth is slread around teams that evem ty teams for the past 10 ywars make a huge profit.

3/4 of the league is tanking more or less, we'll see if the new CBA rules help with that

It doesn't just water down the league with ty teams, it stunts the growth of what otherwise could be legit stars coming into the league. You stick some bad ass on the 6ers and he's injured before the tipoff of the 1st game because they don't know how to run a organization, and allowing him to put on what, 30 pounds without ever playing an NBA game? That's re ed. If these guys went to teams that could develop their skills the league would be so much better for it. Just look at all the 1st overall picks over the past decade that haven't done but pad empty stats on non-compe ive rosters.

Just goes to show you that leveling doesn't work, socialism doesn't work if everyone isn't pulling their own weight, if they don't have the league/community interest in mind.

First the league needs to use the d league life a true minor league program.

Second $$$$$ is what these trans care about. Lock out a team from revenue sharing if they can't make the playoffs in five years.

Third,, anyone remember my packet drafting? Give bad teams multiple picks, then lock them out from picks so they can start to develop without being incentivized to tank

Cut the league in half or send 1/3 of the teams to the D-League. You could even use the promotion and relegation system like in European soccer. If you miss the playoffs, you get sent down.

How about the top 3 teams picking in the draft are automatically ineligible for the lottery the next season. The best they can do is picks 12-14 depending on other ineligible teams that miss the playoffs.

Also to solve the issue of shamelessly resting players, maybe ins ute a disabled list like baseball. I know in baseball they can rest players without putting them on the DL, but they also play a ton of games in each city, so the Mike Trout fan in KC has a half dozen or more chances to see him. LeBron only travels to West teams once a year. So if Lue wants to sit LeBron for a road game and disappoint the thousands of fans who got tickets to see him, then he's gonna have to put Bron on the DL and sit him for a whole week and potentially lose 3-4 more games.

No need for this . They'll just make up a fake injury like in the past or suit them up but not play, or play a second and take a timeout. Resting players is totally fine.

The losing is penalty enough, imo. Most of the time tanking doesn't work anyway. It only "works" if a tanking team had the good fortune to draft number-one in a year in which there is a franchise-changing player available, and those types of players don't come along very often. , the Cavaliers had three number-one picks in four years and the only reason they're in the position they're in is because LeBron decided to come back. Had he stayed in Miami or gone elsewhere the Cavaliers would still be mediocre at best even with all those top picks.

Yes, the NBA needs to lop off 20 teams. There is talent enough for 8 teams, 10 teams absolute tops.

It will..not sure by how much.

The problem is the Draft is not perfect, and the best player is not picked 1st 100% of the time.
Theres also a problem with teams that dont pick in the Top 3 (assuming those are the best picks in terms of actually picking the best player available).
These teams dont get a Top pick in the draft so they just cant get better.
Sacramento can keep Cousins with the new CBA (or at least offer him a little more money) but they dont have the first pick, they will be the same team next season, unless they get lucky and get s draft steal..which usually doesnt happen.
So, how can Sacramento actually improve? What Top 10 player wants to join them?

At the end of the day, the NBA can try to do a lot of things in order to balance the teams, but people manage teams, and people make mistakes.

There was a thread a few years ago I think, in which people posted suggenstions to solve the unbalance...

We can talk about this for ages...

There was someone that suggested a Max in Top picks, like a team cant have..idk...more than 3 Top 3 picks in 5 years...or something like that...that was actually interesting.
Too lazy to search that post...ha
