The Spurs had that black San Antonio road jersey from 1973-76. Their home jerseys were silver/gray during that time.

Also, when did they drop the trim on the ass-side of the shorts (seen here) from the home uniforms?

I have an old "Gametime" Spurs program that shows photos of each year and it appears the Spurs went from the diamond on the sides of the shorts to the 2-line trim on the back of the shorts for the 1978-79 season.
I can't tell very well from the photos in the book I have but it may have been around 1985-86. I"ll keep looking.
The year David and Sean were rookies (1989-90), the Spurs made their biggest changes to the unis, warmups and logos including the fiesta colors.
Weren't the home jerseys gray for their first season in the NBA also (76-77)? I remember seeing a copy of SI with a shot from the Celtics / Spurs series with the Spurs in gray.
I meant that the Spurs used to have a black stripe design on the ass side of the home shorts, which they got rid of sometime around 85 or so I think, but I'm not sure.

That 2-line trim that went to the back of the shorts is what I was talking about, Baseline (as pictured above in your EAS image). From 1978-79 until around 85-86, as best as I can tell.
I'll have to keep looking on the last season for the silver/gray home jersey but I thought it was 76.
I've seen plenty of photos with the black letters from the ABA, but I've never seen an ABA photo with them wearing that road jersey.
Do you have any action pics from the ABA in the white-lettered jerseys?
The black letters on the away were much better than the plain bold white. We need to go back to that.
George Karl defends Warren Jabali. Jabali played in Denver for the Rockets in 1972-73 and 1973-74. The Spurs moved from Dallas to San Antonio for the 1973-74 season, George Karl's first with the Spurs. Therefore, this photo was taken in 1973-74 season. That white numeraled Spurs' away jersey shown earlier in this thread was from the 1974 season (right-click "properties" of the pic to see the year of the jersey), so that was probably the only season they had the white numerals before going to the black.

Awesome work, Solid! Man, those shorts look hideous without the diamond and the Spur.
It still doesn't answer when the Spurs went from the black numbers back to the white shown in your first pic (below). Johnny Moore's first season with the Spurs was 1980-81, so it could be from that season.
