Even if the Knicks win tonight against the Rockets, how did this garbage franchise ever get the reputation as one of the best of all time? In 70 years, they've been elite in what, 3, maybe 4 eras? 2 les all time? 8 Finals appearances (3 in the early 50's) and all of them featuring many parts of the same nuclei?
Must pay off well to play in Madison Square Garden in the heart of NYC.
As many les as the highly esteemed Houston Rockets.
The Rockets haven't been around as long, have they? And the Knicks always get their knob slobbed in the media like they actually have mattered much throughout NBA history. Other than the Ewing and Reed eras and back before anyone cared about the NBA, they have pretty much never mattered.
benefitted from being jordans during the 90s pr campaign...
Stern did the works to get a ty Knicks team to actually take the Celtics to 7 games in 84; he was desperate for a Lakers vs. Knicks finals.
For the same reason the Cubs did when they hadn't won a le for over a century & the Sox when they hadn't won for close to a century.![]()
Agree with OP..The Knicks are the most overrated big/meduim market franchise in the history of the NBA..Give me the Mavericks decade run 2001-2011 over the Knicks entire +60 years of mostly mediocre existence...Heck the Nets have been the more relevant New York City team this century..
This awful franchise going to waste a potential HOF talent like clockwork....Who the is Carmelo to be awarded a no-trade clause in his contract?..
Need to blow it up all starting with Phil and build around KP asap..
The most exciting thing the Knicks have pulled off was the Starks baseline dunk.
What's even worse is that their tickets are still incredibly overpriced this year... last year they were pretty low, which is expected for that ty product, but this year they haven't budged.
I suppose that might change if Rose walks away and they continue sucking up a storm, per par...
Same reason Ewing got such notoriety: because the NY media thinks they're the center of the world.
Ewing battled through major knee problems & stayed loyal when he could have stolen money from the Knicks or demanded a trade like Barkley. Ewing is adored by Knicks fans for the same reason Admiral is adored by Spurs fans despite his short comings in the postseason.
Ewing played on enormous contracts when he got old and he aged like Kobe. He acted like he was prime Shaq, like he should get the ball on the block every possession. That's why his second finals team was so much better with him on the bench. Ewing couldn't become the role player Robinson was willing to be. There was never a time you'd watch the Spurs in Robinson's later years and think 'hey they're better off without him.' But Ewing just got in everyone's way in his later years.
How do you suck so bad in the eastern conference? That's just embarrassing.![]()
'98-'99 was different since they had Sprewell who was their best 2-way player & Camby who was a beast when he was healthy.
Ewing was injured in '98 but he dominated Alonzo in Gm 7 of the '97 series despite the Knicks losing the series:
What annoys me as a Cavaliers fan is that everyone sees the '90s Cavs as MJ's es- which they were- but then they'll turn around and talk about the Bulls-Knicks "rivalry" from the same period, even though the Knicks were every bit MJ's as the Cavs.
not as much as the Cavs tbh
And tbh, that game 5 of the 1993 ECF was a joke when it came to the officiating
that fight and those suspensions
The 97 Knicks had a legit chance at beating the Bulls that year
jordan nike and the refs, the holy trifecta of the 90s NBA global marketing strategy. Tbh, a couple of series were heavily tweaked (one vs cavs and one vs knicks) and should've gone the other way. Imo many people fail to understand that jordan won in a league far watered down than even today's NBA, while jordan had some of the most stacked teams in history.
Knicks were a much more physical, dirtier team than the Cavs and they were seen as hated villains.
The Knicks are routinely a running joke in the NBA and media...not sure where this thread is coming from![]()
Agreed. Their own fans would agree with this.
