The links got short changed. Can't see what they're about.

2001- Spurs sign Stephen Jackson/Spurs badly miss Derek Anderson,lol/Steve Smith trade

    2002- Ginobilimania/Spurs are not talented

2003- Spurs are worst champions/Duncan vs Hakeem

2005- Nazr trade/ in depth preview of finals.

Eerie quote by David Robinson I pulled from the '03 thread in clutchfans.

"I've seen a dramatic lowering of the number of guys that can really shoot that midrange shot," Spurs center David Robinson said. "When I first came in, there were a lot of guys who could make shots, open shots from about 17 feet, make them on the move. Now it seems like there are a lot more extreme guys, either guys who can stand there and shoot 3s or guys who can get to the rim but not very many guys who are really good in-between shooters.

"Just thinking off the top of my head, I can only think of guys like (Richard) Hamilton, Glenn Robinson. You can pick a handful of guys. There are not that many guys who really shoot that midrange shot well. When I came in, there were a ton of guys. There were a bunch of Ricky Pierces and Walter Davises, and everybody could shoot that thing. Some of the more fundamental skills are kind of lacking somewhat in a large percentage of the players."

I hate to say it, but the NBA championship is going to be going through San Antonio for a LONG time. With Duncan, Parker and possibly Jermaine O'Neal, the Spurs have dynasty written all over them. Then again, the Spurs could screw it all up if they end up getting J Kidd and shipping TP elsewhere.

Jermaine O'Neal??? I don't recall that rumor! Might have been the prequel to LaMarcus Aldridge...

Spurs almost got Jermaine. Jermaine has said this a few times in interviews that he was on the verge of signing with the Spurs. The only reason he didn't do it was Larry Bird promised him that he would keep Isiah Thomas as the head coach of the pacers if he re-signed with the Pacers. Jermaine viewed Isiah as a father figure and that is what got him to re-sign with the Pacers. What's funny is that Bird immediately fired Isiah after Jermaine signed his new contract. Jermaine has said that if he could do it all over again that he would have signed with the Spurs. I feel the Spurs getting Kawhi from the Pacers is karma for how Bird screwed them over from getting Jermaine.

Haha!! Of course it is! That long ago, I was a poor kid with no cable/satellite so I didn't know much beyond the games. I knew Kidd was probably (but didn't) gonna join for Parker but I wasn't aware Jermy almost came over. Probably would have hurt my fragile teen feelings knowing Bird pulled that anyway

That summer was wild. Elton Brand was also in talks to sign with the Spurs but Sterling immediately sent out memos to all the teams in the league in which he stated that he will match whatever offer Elton gets. Elton was a restricting FA at the time. That move by Sterling shocked everybody since prior to that he was a cheap ass and never paid his players max money.
