I'm thinking here and I can't think of a single one. A player that made the roster and played any significant minutes. Hopefully they are done with that because it has been an utter failure.

Manu carved out a pretty solid career for himself.

Likely to see Bertans in the rotation this year as well. Also Ian played a fair amount although was a disappointment.

De Culo had a cup of coffee in the league too and was drafted late in the 2nd round so he can't really be considered a bust.

I wouldn't consider Manu a draft and stash. He came over immediately. We didn't draft Bertans. Tiago is the only legitimate draft and stash imo.

It's been getting harder as more NBA teams are drafting international guys and more international guys are building their careers around the NBA draft. The best hope is for guys like Hanga to develop over the course of years and eventually come over. By and large, the guys the Spurs stash are not NBA ready, and that's going to lead to a fair number of failed prospects.

Uh, it took him 3 years after he was drafted to join the Spurs. He was a draft and stash and arguably the greatest draft and stash of all-time.

Manu was drafted in '99 and got to the Spurd in '02.

Tiago and Scola (although not for the Spurs) are other succesful draft and stash players.

My bad lol. Wouldn't say new Spur fan but wasn't as avid a follower of the nuances of the draft and such back then. But beyond Manu the recipe for drafting late and seeking talent overseas seems to be too much of a long shot nowadays. I mean not only do you need to find a player that's worth drafting, but if they are by the time the Spurs want to make a move to bring them over they either a)become overpriced overseas so much that is not worth the risk or b) they have fringe talent, get stuck overseas and are never able to develop to become a viable option in the NBA.

Manu, Splitter, Scola, and now Bertans are all players who were drafted and brought over a few years later. Jury is still out on Bertans. Scola had a solid career and I don't need to say much on Splitter/Manu. Spurs haven't always knocked it out of the park but they definitely had had success with drafting and stashing some players.

And for the last couple seasons Spurs have been drafting a lot of American players so their whole draft and stash approach isn't really used these days

The Spurs' draft-and-stash strategy was a game of chance akin to throwing on the wall and seeing what sticks. They got lucky with Manu, but many other second round picks were rather forgettable.

By the way, the first player to be drafted and stashed was David Robinson. But unlike others, he was a known quan y.

I think RC Drunkford should hand the keys (pun intended) to someone else during the draft. Livio and Mulitinov are atrocious, the year he finally had a chance of drafting a good euro in Jokic he drafts Fathead Anderson instead, Murray is looking like a dud right now, and Derrick White was a wasted pick when there were a handful or two of players that were better and younger

Mahinmi took a long time to get going but has carved out a reasonable career. It is getting a lot harder as more and more time is spent by teams scouting overseas.
