“I grew up a Lakers and a Clippers fan,” George says. “I idolized Kobe. There will always be a tie here, a connection here. People saying I want to come here, who doesn’t want to play for their hometown? That’s a dream come true, if you’re a kid growing up on the outskirts of L.A., to be the man in your city. But it’s definitely been overstated. For me, it’s all about winning. I want to be in a good system, a good team. I want a shot to win it. I’m not a stats guy. I’m playing this game to win and build a legacy of winning. I’ve yet to do that. I’m searching for it. If we get a killer season in Oklahoma, we make the conference finals or upset the Warriors or do something crazy, I’d be dumb to want to leave that.”
“It’s too early for L.A.,” he says. “It would have to be a situation where the ball gets rolling and guys are hopping on. This guy commits, that guy commits. ‘Oh s---, now there’s a team forming.’ It has to be like that.”
George is optimistic about what he and Russell Westbrook can build with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“I’m in OKC, so hopefully me and Russ do a good enough job and make it to the conference finals and love the situation, why not recruit someone to come build it with us? I’m open in this whole process.”

He's lying. If George cared about winning he'd be in Cleveland.
I believe him. In all honesty, I can actually picture him joing the Clippers instead. We have a really nice foundation here. With West running things and possibly Rivers out by next year, it would be difficult for him to join an inferior team simply because of brand.
This is nothing more than deflecting to keep the fact that he's bailing to head to LA from being a distraction all season long. I mean what the do you expect him to say?

not sure magic is smoking but it's a pipe dream. you cant keep these assets and build a playoff team on the fly, smh. either you stick with the young guns, hope they develop into some all star caliber athletes (ingram has a shot) or you sell the farm and bring major players to take them out of the cellar.

George really didn't have a choice, he was traded. By running his spoiled punk ass mouth about wanting to go to the Flamers, he put a real dent on Indiana's negotiating.
Many teams may have reasoned they did not want to trade much for a one year rental of George as he would then leave to pursue his stated desire to trans to identifying as Laker in 18-19.
While I think Paul George is vastly overrated by the mainstream media s, surely Indy could have done much better had he shut his yap.
