Banks out at least six weeks with lower leg stress fracture

BOSTON (Ticker) - Marcus Banks will miss at least six weeks with a stress fracture in his lower left leg, thinning out the compe ion for starting point guard of the Boston Celtics.
The Celtics announced Monday that Banks underwent an MRI that revealed a stress fracture in his left tibia. He had missed the last two preseason games with soreness in his left shin.
Banks will be re-evaluated in six weeks, or approximately one month into the season. By that time, the Celtics will have decided on a starting point guard.

Banks was vying with second-year guard Delonte West and journeyman Dan au for the top spot. He was considered the quickest and best defender of the trio.
A 2003 first-round pick, Banks has averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 assists in two seasons, both with the Celtics.
