Rene Boucher, an anesthesiologist in Bowling Green, has been charged with misdemeanor assault for the altercation, which occurred at the Kentucky senator's home in the city.
While the motive for the attack is still unclear, a lawyer for Boucher said on Monday that the the exchange stemmed from a “matter that most people would regard as trivial."
“It was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial,” attorney Matthew Baker said. “We sincerely hope that Sen. Paul is doing well and that these two gentlemen can get back to being neighbors as quickly as possible.”
