Not sure why I don't see a thread about this anywhere. Surely a allegedly politically motivated attack on an upstanding senator deserves its own thread?

Rene Boucher, an anesthesiologist in Bowling Green, has been charged with misdemeanor assault for the altercation, which occurred at the Kentucky senator's home in the city.

While the motive for the attack is still unclear, a lawyer for Boucher said on Monday that the the exchange stemmed from a “matter that most people would regard as trivial."

“It was a very regrettable dispute between two neighbors over a matter that most people would regard as trivial,” attorney Matthew Baker said. “We sincerely hope that Sen. Paul is doing well and that these two gentlemen can get back to being neighbors as quickly as possible.”

What is there to say? It was either about shrubs or it was a crazy liberal who punched someone and now he's going to jail. In which case the law worked exactly like it's supposed to.

Take it up with the local Kentucky officials.

Or do you want the federal government to press charges?

Are you implying motive to an assault on an important elected official is the basis for a newsworthy story?

Well that's ed up then. Bail should be higher. Of course I dont know what bail normally is for a beating. It's a rich neighborhood so he'd be able to get out anyway I'm guessing. Get a restraining order make the guy move. I agree if the judge is a liberal and he goes easy on him it will look bad. Can't go around punching people whatever it's about.

Nope. I'll just add it's also allegedly some dumb neighbor dispute.

My neighbor theory is they had a dispute over boundaries or clippings or other yard waste or some combination thereof.

    What's your theory, Chris?

    Be specific.

This is exact way DoK always asks people questions. Including the "be specific" part. literally not an original thought in that head

It's great too because when people are talking out of their ass and you ask them to be specific they just make themselves look bad. It makes you look smart too then. You should use it a lot because God know trying to look smart using your own argument tactics has never worked for you

The fact he was charged with misdemeanor assault and not battery or attempted murder pretty much rules out any serious altercation. You can get 6 broken ribs by falling in the wrong place, tbh... that's half the ribs on one side of your body.

This guy was clearly a guy Paul knew (neighbors), so it's not like he tried to break in or anything... frankly, based on the charges alone it looks like a argument gone horribly wrong.

Sucks for Paul, tbh, hope he has a speedy recovery. The $7500 bail sounds reasonable, but the guy eventually will likely be on the hook for way more if Paul files a civil suit.

Just to get an idea, the actual charge of misdemeanor assault carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and/or a fine up to $1000.
