College Football vs. NFL

Which do you prefer or is more exciting to you to watch?

Personally, I like college football better. It seems like those guys have more heart when they're out on that field. And it is just more exciting to me.

The NFL guys(least a lot of them it seems) are like, I'm gettin my paycheck, guess I better perform, ex: Terrell Owens.

Maybe I'm off base, but this is how I'm seeing it.

I like college a lot better than pro ball, and I always have.

The rules are more relaxed. I love watching the wishbone, the spread option and amazing one-handed catches where one foot is barely in bounds. Or when guys who should be playing basketball (Charlie Ward) QB programs to the national le.

Overtime in college kicks ass. There's too much to lose in the pros to just start drives from the 35 and see if the first team on offense can outscore the second team. But in college, it can add another halfhour of drama to games that only make them better.

Walk-ons. For me, any time you hear about a walk-on making a great play, it's a point for every Joe College, and like a Rocky story when you hear about a walk-on earning a scholarship.

The whole indecisiveness of it all. Fans rely on pollsters, college head coaches, and computers to determine what the best team in the country is rather than making all of them play each other in a predefined format. It's a lot more fun to hate on the ed-up pollster opinion rather than the ed-up refs opinion.

I could give two s about the money. The NFL is more entertaining to me. Thats why I like it more than college. And its pretty funny that you say college players play with heart and not for money. Most College players are playing because they think they have a shot at the NFL and the MONEY. I'll give you that the skinny white kid from podunk Texas that walked on as a safety at UT is probably playing for the right reasons, but he's in the minority.

Too many damn commercials during NFL games. College ball is better. The rivalries are better. USC-ND game has been way better than any other NFL game this season.

There are 4 reasons why I think Pro Football RULES over College Football:

1) Superior Game. I just love the complexity of the pro game. I love the idea of coordinators getting their best players into the best matchups against their opponents weakest players whether its on offense or defense. I just love that dynamic of the pro game versus college. College is simple b/c of the constant change due to the players' academic eligibility factor. College just can't compete in this department.

2) Superior Athletes. In the NFL, everybody can play the game. EVERYBODY. Only the best of the best can make it in the pros. Whether you're the best b/c of your talent or b/c of your heart or b/c of your knowledge of the game or b/c your combination of the three, you're the best of the best and that means something to me. I'm watching to see pure excellence. Every week, you have to bring your A game, otherwise you could get beat. That's something you just don't have in the college game. Nowadays, college teams pay overmatched high school teams to fill out their schedule to pretty up their records. I'm not feeling that.

3) No Polls/No Popularity Contests. The champion is determined on the field as it should be. This is an area where Pro Football definately appeals to me over College Football.

4) The Underdogs. They are everywhere. Name a team and I bet you can name one player that's come out of nowhere to make a name for himself or continue to survive living his dream to play in the NFL. I realize some people say that these guys play for the money but that's just not the case. Most of these guys play for the love of the game. This game is just too brutal and too cut-throat to play for the money. The Bill Bates and Steve Taskers of the world didn't play for the money. How about the Everson Walls and Larry Browns of the world? How about Priest Holmes? These guys all have interesting stories. Just this season, I was having a great time seeing the success of Patrick Crayton. Look, these types of guys are everywhere. Someone wants to say that pro football is nothing but players playing for money and I'll tell you that they're looking at a select few and ignoring the majority of players playing year to year without guaranteed money.

I agree with those points and that is why I like pro football but to be fair to the college game....

They allow them to play...no overprotection of the QB, bump and run is allowed.
better OT system IMO.
more rivalries and more intense ones.
more players playing for the love of the game.
you have underdogs in the college game as well and more of them.
a home field advantage is just that. More rabid and intense.

College...Once you get involved in a particular college as a student and enjoy the history of the game and the pride and ownership of the students/alum, it whips Pro Ball. Football is often just another part of being affiliated with your university. Those who have attended and graduated from Universities know, or should know, what I mean.

Oh, and you do not have to worry about another city stealing your college either! (SARCASM)

That is something that I can agree on in regards to college over pro. I hate how they protect the QB's in the pros. I understand why they do it, but I don't like it.

I'm more of a traditionalist. I don't like the idea that college eliminates special teams' contribution (kickoff & punting) to the game from overtime. I also don't like the fact that the offense is already in field goal range when they get the ball. Although I do wish pro football would at least give both offenses one opportunity to score in overtime, but I'd still rather have the sudden death overtime than the one that's in college football. It's just too gimicking for my tastes even though I understand how many people might like it.

I easily can agree with you on that one. When you go to the university, that's just something you can't match.

Not in my book. But I can understand how you might feel that way. I think that the level of compe ion in the pro game adds more to the idea of the little man making it.

If you mean the crowd being loud, I'll give you that. Although, you could pick the home team across the board every week in pro football regardless of the matchups and you'll end up with a better than 60% hitting percentage over the season. That's pretty good if you ask me.

I like both as well.
A couple of friends of mine swear up & down that TO is gay & we won't hear it publicly til he retires. Can you imagine the ass that guy would pull in an alternative lifestyle club?
