Durant over-stated it. In truth, Kawhi was a system player because he committed to it (and he wanted less pressure). He was willing to be a fourth option on offense; make the corner threes and scrap for a few points otherwise while playing great defense.

Had he came out of his s sooner, Spurs probably would've dominated the Heat in 13 though. Pop was way to slow to make the read and push for that.

In conclusion, Kawhi is no system player at this point. Durant knew he was wrong in essence at the time, too. That's honestly about the time I started to lose respect for that beta MF.

Sadly Durant is full of . Maybe he was right in 2014, but Leonard was the system by 2016.

Kawhi was very good when he had great shooting coaches and a great work ethic, and when he had the guidance of veteran leadership and front office. Let's see how he handles missing the playoffs for a few years. Let's see how he handles running point forward, when he has to come down and do more than shoot from wing, and when there's no system in place to put a run together, just emotional momentum that drops off a cliff when the cheering of the crowd is against you on the road.

Kawhi is irreplaceable, thus not a system player. Like Durant he's a top five talent but not a team leader. LMA just wasn't the right co star. This team needed an Avery or Dray to light some fire. If kawhi suc bs to yes men, I think his career will suffer.

That's why the Lakers trade is so hollow. It's not the right culture.

It's now or never for the ol' sport it seems. You either be the star you were supposed to be or falter without the system that created you

I wish Kawhi well wherever he plays. And I wish he is the Kawhi we all knew and loved a season ago. Durant's comments were clearly out of line, and if Kawhi was not on his level KD wouldn't be talking about him. Main difference is one is on his way up and other wont be on his prime for that much longer.

The main concern about Kawhi is his health. He has missed a significant amount of games in last few years and had to take pretty much the entire year off to heal.

Kawhi will be a basketball stud wherever he goes, especially on defense.
