The anti-gun Violence Policy Center's research paper on firearm use for self-defense in America reveals that firearms were used for self-defense an average of 67,740 times per year from 2007 to 2011. The same research paper reveals that there were 230 justifiable homicides versus 8,275 criminal firearm homicides reported to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program in 2010.
So annual use of firearms for self-defense in America is 8 times greater than annual firearm homicides.
