I'll be the first to say that I don't want the Saints to come over here, but if I were a fan, I would be worried that Benson is thinking of playing the 2006 season over here, then possibly moving them to LA. Is the sales tax going to increase to renovate the Alamodome just to please Benson and Tag for one year? I know what you Saints fans are thinking, we'll really show the NFL that we can support a team! Gee wiz, we'll have one full year to show them! Yeah right!! After all that excitement of finally having an NFL team, of going to the games, and having fun...................then ol' Benson will pull the plug!! NOW WHAT DO YOU ALL DO?? Is that what you all want? Just to experiance the NFL for one year? If they do that, then the NFL and Benson are not showing San Antonio any respect at all!

That would be kinda messed up thinking about it.

I would think that any deal to improve the dome that is financed by the public would include a guarantee of the Saints playing there for a certain period of time.

The reality San Antonio has to accept is that Benson will probably start clamoring for a new facility in a couple of years, with a move to LA as the threat if he doesn't get what he wants.

If San Antonio gets cracking on a suitable facility, be it a heavily renovated Alamodome or an all-new stadium, with whatever financing arrangements government/corporations/other private interests can come up with, then L.A. is a moot point. They don't have a stadium deal now in L.A. All they have is talk, the same talk they've been talking since 2000. There is no walk to go with the talk --- yet. If S.A. beats L.A. to the punch, it wins.

If San Antonians are thinking the existing Alamodome is good enough, or that they are "en led" to NFL football, then the compe iton provided by a hypothetical L.A. group is good motivation to get y'all off your butts. If you drag your feet and defeat a referendum or two, and then suddenly an L.A. businessmen inks a deal to build a 70,000-seat stadium in Carson and the team goes there, you'd have nobody but yourselves to blame.

There's the rub. You have to count on San Antonio de Bexar being amenable to financing a major public project. The one good thing, if you want to see a new facility built or major renovations to the dome is that Henry C is involved in the effort to get the Saints in SA. While his political star may have vaporized, I'd say he still has some pull in SA. When it comes to public sports facilities in SA, you have him and the Spurs' 1st NBA Championship as the main reasons, respectively, that there is a stadium and an arena in SA.

I am all for a NEW stadium if needed. But I think major renovations would do the trick for a few years.

What's a few cents sales tax anyway??? Bring on the NFL BABY!!!!!!

    Get out your checkbooks.

    It's going to cost you.

Well, let's face it. Something is going to come along that raises our sales tax sooner or later. I'd rather it be for a team than something totally funky. At the moment I can't think of anything to example, but there's bound to be some stupid plan out there just waiting to hatch.

A 1/4 cent hike in a tax!!! Say it isn't so! A 1/4 cent increase! You mean I'll have to pay 1/4 of a penny more! WTF!?

LOL. I remember everyone getting their panties in a bunch when we had to put out for the Dome. Thinking back, it didn't hurt. I don't recall what impact it had on me, so whatever. I'm good to go.

People voted for the Dome when we didn't even have a team.

That's a chance I'm willing to take. I'm looking at it from the same standpoint of getting lucky enough to hook up a with a really hot chick. You know it's probably too good to last. You know she's probably going to break your heart if you make the mistake of falling in love with her. And you know she's probably gonna dump you just as soon some guy who makes more money than you comes along. But at least you know that you're gonna be the one bangin her for a while!

Dude, they can't even DO the renovations in a year. Believe me: there will be nothing done to the Dome unless they agree to stay for a few years, and no new stadium without a LONG term lease.

Actually, I remember some rep from the Dome (during a radio interview) saying that they could do the suite additions during the offseason. And that it would only take about 6 months.

But whatever, the additions need to be made regardless. We cannot support a team without those extra suites.

And ICBrewski, I agree with you; we need to enjoy HER while we have HER!

LMFAO!! Priceless post...priceless. Few things make me laugh as hard as I am right now. And not only is this very witty, but totally apropos, considering who we are dealing with.

Man, I'm still giggling. Nice shot, man, nice shot.

Well, Hardberger said that it won't be local money, and I doubt the state releases any from the business slush fund without some sort of signoff/commitment for at least the short term.

Have you guys seen the opposition to a much needed ACCD bond and you think you can easily pass a sales tax for a private ing company and it is no big deal? This is why this country is filled with morons.

I love the NFL, but people have their priorities all out of whack and the polls continiously show it.

Wasn't the opposition more about the location of the new nursing school? People wanted the school to be located at St. Philips but the board choose a Medical Center location instead.

Or is there still major opposition for the new bond that has the school going to both St. Philips and Palo Alto?

If there is, that's complete utter BS that it would be opposed.

The opposition is not as loud as from the previous bond election. The group that were pissed about last time are in favor of it this time.
