The solution here is to make the shot...not a 3 point shot, but rather a 2.5 shot.

Spurs might be the only throwback team in the league right now
EDIT: I cant figure out how to embed the tweet
Gregg Popovich hates 3-pointers: "It’s not real basketball. Let’s have a 4-point shot. Or a 5-point shot and make it really fun for the fans. Let’s make it a circus" When asked if game would be OK without a 3-pt. shot, he said: "What am I? You want me to cure cancer, too?"

make 3's a four pointer, 2's a three pointer, and free throws a 2 pointer but you only get one... speeds up the game as well
Give 3 points on dunks and layups too, spread the highlights around. Fast break with steal can be a 4 point shot. Make the defender fall on his ass, 3 pts....
They aren't going to have half points. They could change it to 4pt and 3pt shots instead of 3 and 2 though.
I would love the home team picking out 3 or 4 random hot spots on each half of the floor like NBA Jam. I always thought the half court line could be the four point line.
just delete the 3sec rule, return with hand-cheking and the game will be more diverse than today
The 3pt line is a joke. The fact that the paint is still 16ft wide to stop big men also a joke. They changed the size of the paint well before the existence of the 3pt line and then never adjusted.
The NBA use to make quick adjustments. It was basically a startup trying to figure out what worked. Now they are an established product and refuse to make adjustments.
Half court would not work as an extra point line because of the backcourt violation. The last thing the NBA wants is to see its players pull up at random parts of the game and shoot half court shots. That would ruin the game.
Absolutely.
Nobody would take half court shots for an extra point unless it was the end of the game or time period.
That's what I was trying to do, thanks.

The NBA did everything this year to inflate the three point shot to its maximum limit. The new NBA big men coming out of college are scouted for their 3pt shot more than ever. I personally don't like watching two teams toss up 40-50 three pointers per game. It might be fun to the new casuals ,and more points = more entertaining I guess??, but in the end it becomes nothing more than a 3pt contest. The Spurs might be the only team that doesn't rely on three point shooting to win games. I don't know any team that does this. Heck, even the scrubs Phoenix Suns are chucking up as many 3s as they can, to fit into the new system.
I remember a time when there used to be a saying " Live or Die by the 3 "
Now it's live by the 3.
Appreciate that thanks
I agree with him-- it has hurt the game, and is too much of a reward for an outside shot... but as long as it's the rule, you've got to try and use it to your advantage.
I have no problem with the 3 point shot. I do have an issue with the pussifaction of the league. I mean you don't have to go full out 90's Knicks bball but I mean have some handchecking and get rid of defensive 3 seconds. The entire game is now lay-up and 3's so that would also help with the defense if the Centers were allowed to be in the lane instead of trying to guard them at the top of the key.
I have nothing against 3 pointers. Hey if we have a player who can shoot from half court, why not? I'm hating pussy Durant and ringchasing Boggie.
I'm not concerned about 3 point shot, but the recent changes of protecting shooters, freedom of movement, and no hand checking, are really in favour of jump shooters.
he said this years ago, old news, we know
I have nothing against 3s. If you’re playing a team that shoots 40 threes a game, then run em off the ing line. That’s what coaching is about. Taking away from a team what they do well
It's harder to keep a player in check without a foul.
