So, what does that poll mean? That the people who the racism is directed at don't care/are bothered by it? A bit strange especially if the gov steps down, an African American would take his place.

As someone who lives in VA, it makes sense that other black people don't want him to step down.
If Northam, Fairfax and Herring all resign then a Republican would take over- the Virginia GOP is growing increasingly unpopular in the state Gilmore lost by 10 points and Stewart lost by 16 in the last two statewide elections.
The L.T Gov may get impeached for sexual assault accusations. Northam staying in place means that he can pick his new Lieutenant governor and many Dems are calling it for it to be a long time state politician ( and a black woman) to be the pick. It would ensure that there won't be a Republican governor.
