Belongs in the ramping up the fascism thread. Paramilitaries doing the charismatic leader's bidding while providing plausible deniability for violence.

Those guys belong in jail for enforcing federal law. That's not for you and me to do, ducks.

    Well regulated militia bad now.

We've always had the right to make citizens arrests. No one minded the "we" part when regular folks did the National Guard's job in Houston.

    Properly deputized.

If you think a self-deputized militia is equivalent to the National Guard you're twisted.

These guys should go directly to jail. They have no authority to detain anyone.

If DJT can't handle it, that's on him. We can't have irregular, UNREGULATED militias enforcing US law.

    Period.

If we need that, it's a failure of government.

I could be wrong, but illegally crossing is not a breach of peace, nor a felony. We have the NG for a reason. Citizens trying to get involved will make it worse, and most likely lead to some unnecessary and tragic events. If these people don't want to surrender, you just can't shoot them or beat them down, as it would be a crime. It is best citizens stay out of it.

“We can't make them stay if they don't want to,” Benvie said, comparing the detention of migrants to a “verbal citizen’s arrest."
“If these people follow our verbal commands, we hold them until Border Patrol comes,” Benvie told The Times. “Border Patrol has never asked us to stand down.”

If that is the case, fine. But they were holding them at gun point. That is a crime. We need the BP and NG to do their job, not armed citizens. Ironically, the issue of illegal immigration is actually getting worse under Trump.

It's a misdemeanor. Nothing big, you pay a fine and get deported back or just get deported because let's face it, most of them cant pay.

In the other hand, you can make a case the stupid "militia" group who held these people up at gun point could be brought up on kidnapping charges, impersonating a law enforcement agent, etc.

Not the brightest bulbs in this group for sure.

The article says this group held up as much as 300 immigrants, including children. This rogue group should definitely be looked into for potential crimes committed.

    Bulgarians did it first

"A NOTORIOUS “migrant hunter” who described rounding up refugees as a “sport” has sparked panic after buying himself a helicopter gunship.
Dinko Valev, 29, has already amassed a private arsenal of military-spec vehicles, leading human rights activists to worry his vigilante actions are being supported by the Bulgarian government."
