    Ty Jerome

    School: Virginia
    Position: PG/SG
    Age: 21
    Height: 6-foot-5
    Weight: 195
    Wingspan: 6-foot-3
    Draft Range: 20 to 40

Why: Fantastic decision-maker and above average ball-handler; very rarely turns the ball over. Quality passer, particularly on the move. Compact shooting stroke should transition well to the NBA -- likely a three-point threat on Day 1. Good touch from midrange and near the paint. Already has advanced skills in the pick-and-roll. Defensively, he's fundamentally sound, competes, uses his length well and rebounds at an above average rate for a point guard.

Why Not: Painfully unathletic: not fast, doesn't have quick feet, can't jump. It's unlikely he'd ever be able to drive to the basket and score on the NBA level -- he will always need screens in order create any space on the offensive end. Using his length was enough to survive defensively in college but would be hunted down and isolated against on the pro level. Might have to play SG on defense if he can't keep up with lead guards. Relatively low ceiling due to his physical shortcomings.

Spurs Fit: Wouldn't need time in Austin but could play there due to the glut of PGs on the roster. Long-term, could form an interesting rotation with White, Murray and Walker where they all take turns running the offense.

Spurs Comparison - Ceiling: Bigger, Better Shooting Jacque Vaughn

Spurs Comparison - Floor: Nico Laprovittola

PG is actually a sneaky need for the team with Forbes, Mills, DeRozan, Murray and White all having the potential to be free agents some time before or during the 2021 summer. It's definitely not something I'd be into at 19, but there are a number of scenarios where grabbing a ready-made guard at 29 could be a boon.

How he compared with Steve Nash? Has similar style, also has some Bogdan Bogdanovitc/Milos Teodosic in him...

Maybe with 49... But really, I wan't no part of another terrible defender (negative wingspan to height, unathletic) at the NBA level. As playing with Mills, Marco and so forth has illustrated, terrible defenders sink the boat in the playoffs as they are targeted.

Maybe a decent G league draft candidate. While I could see one of the elite teams taking him in the 2nd round because of his shooting I don’t want to see Spurs take another non athletic perimeter player. He would need to be surrounded by rangy athletes to hide his deficiencies. Only has half of the 3 and D set.

This sentence was pretty much the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the thread le:

"Using his length was enough to survive defensively in college but would be hunted down and isolated against on the pro level."

I am so tired of watching Spur players that are constantly targeted and run over on the defensive end. I read that comment about the Spurs working out Jalen Pickett. I honestly like the idea of bringing him in more than Ty Jerome.

Jerome is going in the first round. If you think he's going to be available at 49 I have beachfront property in San Antonio to sell you tbh.

Just so he goes to one of the 29 teams that’s looking for a shooter that can’t defend a shooter. On the other hand, Spurs have plenty of wine and mentors for him.
