Money. Kawhi's camp wanted the supermax and the Spurs refused to give it to him until he proved his commitment to the team. This is the number one reason Leonard ultimately requested to be traded off the team.

Yes, there were disagreements over the handling of his injury. Yes, Leonard felt slighted by Tony Parker's comments and disrespected by teammates, whom he felt ambushed him at a players-only meeting in the locker room. Yes, he felt he was left to fend for himself by Pop and the rest of the team as he was assaulted mercilessly by the national media during the playoffs last year, with no one on the Spurs putting in a word to defend him.

But at the end of the day, Kawhi and his camp were willing to forgive all of that if the Spurs were to offer him the supermax extension from the moment he became eligible for it. But because the Spurs didn't do that, and instead, made it clear that he would have to earn it first by showing he was healthy and proving his loyalty to the franchise, that became the straw that broke the camel's back that ultimately drove Leonard to declare he wanted out.

You created an account so you could create a thread to try and create a narrative? About a guy who's no longer a Spur?
