Gore chief of staff resigns
WASHINGTON (August 3) -- Vice President Al Gore's chief of staff has resigned to pursue a more lucrative career with a private law firm. Chief of Staff Ron Klain will be replaced by Gore's chief White House counsel and fellow Tennessean, Charles Burson. Klain has accepted a partnership in the Washington office of the Los Angeles-based law firm O'Melveny & Myers. Klain will continue to work with Gore's 2000 presidential campaign as "an uncompensated senior strategist" and participate in regular campaign strategy meetings and "take on special assignments" from campaign general chairman Tony Coelho, Gore said. As chief of staff, Burson will oversee the dozens of personnel who work at the White House for the office of the vice president, which encompasses Tipper Gore's staff as well.
