    Coby White

    School: North Carolina
    Position: PG
    Age: 19
    Height: 6-foot-4.75
    Weight: 191.4
    Wingspan: 6-foot-5
    Draft Range: 5 to 10
    Combine Results? Yes

Why: Super quick off the dribble; gets to the rim in a blink of an eye. Fast in the open court and is very difficult to stop on the break. Three-point jumper appears to be legit: hit 35.3% on an impressive 12.2 attempts per 100 possessions. Good defender who could become a top tier stopper at point guard. Good enough ball handler and shows potential passing-wise and playmaking-wise.

Why Not: Doesn't get off the ground much, which is surprising for someone who otherwise appears to be a good athlete. Low release point on jumper could hurt his transition to the pros. If his passing and playmaking don't improve enough to be a full-time point guard, he's an underwhelming prospect off the ball as a shooting guard. Wingspan is short for his height.

Spurs Fit: It wouldn't make sense to trade up for him unless the Spurs believe neither White nor Murray is a point guard.

Spurs Comparison - Ceiling: Rod Strickland

Spurs Comparison - Floor: Antonio Daniels

Meh, I watched enough of him living in ACC country and I’m not that impressed. Don’t get me wrong he had a good freshman year but I just don’t see a lot of upside in his game to warrant moving up in the draft to grab him. He’ll prob have a solid nba career as a good scorer coming off the bench.

Not the worst pick, but we need to be drafting for starting talent. not the mills replacement. I feel like you can always get one of these guys VIA FA

Too many sources saying that White got a promise at the combine, and left early. Most think it's from Phoenix. But whether it's Phoenix or someone else, it sounds pretty definite that he'll be gone before 10.

Would y’all rather extend Jones or offer a contract to this kid? I can see positives to signing either Jones or White. I don’t understand the negative sentiment towards Jones held by some but here is a comparable situation that might provide perspective. They’re both 23. However, knowing Pop and RC, Jones is a lock to extend.

Hollinger recently published his annual BORD$ projections. The exercise uses a metric he created to estimate how much a player is worth based on what they bring to the court. For Coby White, his projected number might come as a shock to some. He falls into Hollinger’s “good players who could maybe do more” tier with a number set at $18.6 million.
Now, the good news for the Bulls is that the market dictates price and not the BORD$ projection. So while that does give us something to work with, it’s not a surprise that Hollinger estimated something in the ballpark of $15-16 million AAV.

Jones is seen as Avery Johnson. Most want the next Tony Parker.

White is like an undersize shooting guard, and a mediocre one, rather than a PG. Jones doubles him in assists.

I couldn’t stand Avery but I’m a big Tre Jones advocate. I’ve just always viewed White as a potential all star talent. But I would have no issues with Jones getting a contract similar to KJ.

He's a bust at #7. Just like draft evaluators need to let go of high school ratings, player evaluators need to let go of draft position.

It seems like a bad idea to trust North Carolina guards. I'm sure some have hit in the last couple of decades but they've not been great.

Chicago wants to bring back White with Ball out but it’s not like he’s the only point guard option out there. Why would they view White as a priority if he was a bust? It seems like they’ve seen enough incremental improvement with his playmaking and defense to continue investing in his development.

Ok he’s not the traditional point guard but at least he doesn’t pound the air out of the ball. He won’t stifle the Spurs offense because he’s going to attack the paint within 2.5 seconds or he’ll shoot a 3.

This guy just hasn't done anything and its not like Ball has been playing. You'd think if Coby was worth a he would have capitalized on Ball being out for the last two years. I don't know if this guy just needs a change of scenery or if he's a lost cause. Ball has ed this team over though. Thats for sure.

Lavar did. Scuttlebutt is that Lonzo's knee issues were caused by wearing and pimping daddy's crap shoe line.

Idk is it really the shoes? I just chalked it up to the fact that he has overworked those kids from day 1. Not surprised that one of them has broken down.

They must be uniquely terrible shoes given that NBA players survived the 1970’s wearing Adidas Superstars, Converse Pros, and Nike Blazers.

White could be a decent addition to the spurs for the right price. Is he better that what we had last year in Tre Jones, possibly. My guess is that Jones will be asking for a lot of loyalty money from the spurs. It could be more than White's asking price. At that point is where the decision is made. Do they possibly overpay for Jones or do they look elsewhere. White could be an answer.

Before that it was the old Chuck Taylors. Ball's shoes must come with glass shards in the sole or something.
