Hart played a few games with New Jersey's SL team.
Last year he was in Greece.
Best, Travis
Free Agent. Suitable player though he seems to have declined recently. Rumored to be headed to Boston.
Knight, Brevin
Contract ending in '04. Knight's in the last year of his deal in Memphis. They have JWilliams and Earl Watson. Of course they have a bunch of swingmen too. Spurs would probably have to offer to take back a bad contract to get the Grizz to take back Mercer.
Boykins, Earl
Free Agent. Energizer. Supposedly was talking to Denver though the Spurs have been mentioned as having an interest in him.
Cleaves, Mateen
Free Agent. Supposedly playing with Toronto's summerleague team. Good college point guard who didn't see much PT in Sacto the last two seasons due to Bibby and BJackson.
Whitney, Chris
Free Agent. Why on list? Because someone special once told me that "Whitney > Parker." That's why.

Strickland, Rod
Free Agent. Decent backup for one season. Had some injuries last season.
Alston, Rafer
Free Agent. Had a solid season last year. 21 minutes a game, 4.1 assists, 39.2% on his 3s. Plus, he's a certifiable "balla" and that should make a child we know here happy.
Williams, Shammond
Free Agent. Was traded to Denver during last season. Denver has signed Andre Miller to an offer sheet so SWilliams doesn't have a place to start in Denver. The likelihood of the Spurs getting him is low unless perhaps the Spurs could offer to take back a deal in a S&T and Denver would take back Mercer.
Hart, Jason
Free Agent(?). Haven't been able to find any info on where he's at now. He played well in about 10 games in relief in the 2001-02 season and then disappeared. Seemed pretty solid.
Anderson, Kenny
Free Agent. Old dude still has some game. Not much of a 3point shooter nowadays. Stopgap solution for one season.
Vaughn, Jacque
Free Agent. Nothing special. Did well with Atlanta the year before last. Declined a little last season.
Ward, Charlie
Contract ends in '04. Good backup. Doesn't hurt ability to re-sign Ginobili next summer. Rumored to be headed to Dallas in a trade.

With all our cap space gone we might be looking at these guys:

They probably can get a vet point like RStrickland or KAnderson for the vet min.
Negative on Strickland, I think we are set since we will probably sign Devin Brown from the SL. Thats not bad, Parker Brown backup and Kerr for 3rd string.
They're going to add one more point guard to this team. They almost signed RStrickland last year.
Gill, Eddie
Mr. Summerleague
RStrickland brings back too many bad memories.
KAnderson would be ok though.
I really like Cleaves. I'm not sure why Sacto didn't give him a chance to show his stuff. The kid is a true leader and a very heady player. I figured he'd be a star in the NBA after watching him in college. If I were picking teams based on what I saw in college from Cleaves and Dre Miller, I'd of picked Cleaves every time.
My guess on Cleaves is that he's trying to get in with Toronto because that is close to his Michigan home...
Eddie Gill dropped in 23 in the last Summer League game in Utah (Wednesday).
Is he "the one" or shall we look for another?
If they are convinced by someone in the summerleagues perhaps they will decide to add him in a platoon with Ginobili and/or Kerr to handle the backup point. I dunno. I believe if they can add a decent veteran point for the vet minimum they will do that.
He played close to my hometown in Greece.
2002-2003: In Sep.'02 signed at Makedonikos (GRE-A1): left in March '03, but joined back the team next month: 23games: 15.0ppg, 3.1rpg, 4.4apg, 18steals
I'd like someone like Eddie Gill or Doug Overton and use them as their 12th man.
The more minutes at point for Manu and Hedo -- the better.
Take Travis Best off the list.
I think Rafer Alston would be a close subs ute for Speedy Claxton.
Out of the veterans, I like Kenny Anderson, because I think he was the prototype for the type of thin, slashing scoring PG Parker is today.

How about this dude.

I hear that Rod Strickland spend the last 13 years working on his around the back pass.
RC said in his interview the other day they needed a back-up PG if for no other reason than to give Parker a break during practices. I don't think they're looking for much in term of game time other than scrub minutes and I hope they use Manu and Hedo for PG minutes in games.
Eddie Gill would be my pick at this stage. Has put up reasonable numbers in the Summer League.
Jason Hart is playing Summer Basketball somewhere too, so he'd be a chance to make it back into the league.
Does Vladi Bogojevic have any chance? His minutes have been limited and we haven't really seen what he has to offer.
Shammond Williams would be a good signing.
Is Smush Parker availible?
Bogojevic, Eddie Gill, or Kenny Anderson are my picks.
Mateen Cleaves couldnt hit a jump shot to save his life.
Kenny Anderson can hit the jumper and has offensive skill, while displaying decent D.
Go after Kenny Pop.
Well, scratch Armstrong off the list. Brevin Knight is said to be available in a deal for a "big man." If the Grizzlies didn't have 57 swingmen one might think they would be interested in Mercer.
Where did all the love for Chris Whitney go?
Oh man, I forgot about the great Chris Whitney.
I'd like a PG with comparable quickness to Parker/Speedy so we don't lose the running game while Parker's out like we did when Porter was his backup.
The one that comes to mind is Earl Boykins. All I've heard recently about him is that Denver had some interest.
New Orleans just signed Armstrong to back-up Baron Davis.
WELCOME TO SAN ANTONIO KENNY!
