wife started UVA med, so we're in charlottesville

i took the virginia bar on july 30/31, results come in in october. though i kept my old job as they offered to allow me to work remotely while keeping full salary, so i dont really need the VA license at this time

My best friend from high school went to UVA law and practices in DC. He loves it there. Something to consider - especially if you want to eventually get into something that touches politics.

yeah it's come up. and i loved DC when i visited there for ~10 days. but tbh i still think we belong in LA. too much fam and lifelong friends. plus the weather, lack of serious storm concerns. occasional EQ

DC is the 10th most expensive US city, and all around DC the housing is very expensive, eg, Arlington

Even Austin has lost its appeal as a low housing cost city.

I love to visit California but would hate to live there. San Diego/ Ocean Beach, LA, San Francisco, the wine country, etc. All are great to visit. But high income taxes, $5 gas, ridiculous housing prices...damn. my son lives in a 40 year old 2000sf 3/2/2 in Culver City (LA) with a super small yard that is freaking 1.5 million. Blows my mind.

California has a high foreign immigrant population boom going
Actual US citizens on the other hand have been deserting Cali far more than have been moving in.

    "
California’s net outmigration has been ongoing for two-decades-plus. Yet the state’s population continues to grow: By this count, up 108,301 in 2016 — or 0.3 percent — to 38.8 million.
How? Primarily through foreign immigration — 332,197 new residents from other lands in 2016 — and more births than deaths. California’s population-growth challenge — and some folks think we’re crowded enough — is that the state has become a hard sell to folks from elsewhere."
