I know it and you know it. Jim Duncan is clearly a top 10 player of all time. He's just behind Kobe and Shaq in like the 9 range. I thought for sure he would be the first one replaced by the media with like Durant or someone. I can see the media throwing in Kawhi in the top 10 discussion if he wins it this year along with another Finals MVP. Does he replace Jim? My gut says no, but there will be idiots like Cowherd and Kellerman that will push the narrative.

But now Pop is showing how ty a coach he is without Jim, I think it strengthens his case in staying in the top 10. Pop without Jim has an under 500 record in the playoffs with no finals appearances. The media narrative all along has been that Pop is the greatest coach of all time and that's why Jim was so successful. Is this CIA Pop protecting his guy in the grand scale?

It's rare to find a poll or ranking list that has Kobe top 10.

It's rare to find a poll or ranking list that doesn't have Tim top 10.

Shaq vs Duncan all time is an interesting match up tbh. Shaq clearly had the better peak. Duncan with one more ring and one more MVP. But Shaq has more points and averaged more rebounds. Plus Shaq 3peated.

Kobe vs Duncan isn’t even close. Kobe by far has the better career. 2 gold medals. He 3peated. Then made it to the finals 3 times in a row another time closing the deal with a repeat championship. Kobe more points and assists. One less MVP and Finals MVP but one more finals appearance. Also Kobe went out with 60 while Duncan’s last game was him getting his pushed in by Steven Adams

Shaq was from 05 onwards during his career while Timmy was the best player on a contending team until his final year. Yes, Shaq's peak was better, but Tim did beat him twice during it on the way to a le.

Kirby isn't even a top 10 player. Dude couldn't even carry his team to the postseason when the West was at its weakest (outside 09) and needed the HoF bigs to win anything anyway.

It will be interesting to see if the next era of basketball has a public opinion that removes all big men from the top 10. I can see in this guard and small forward focused era where three point shooting matters disproportionately and big men are marginalized that the common consensus will be that great three point shooters like Curry will matter more than the Kareems, Shaqs, Duncans, etc.

60 in a meaningless regular season game. If Duncan cared about stat-padding, and was willing to settle for 30% shooting above winning games, he probably could have greatly increased his scoring numbers as well. And, as for the 3-peat, Kobe had another top-10 player next to him for that run, so I'd give the nod to TD for bringing 5 rings to a small market team. Kobe wouldn't have had the patience to get to his first le in San Antonio.

    All Tim did was win

But, I think your argument will be used by a lot of folks to argue Kobe's place above Duncan.

If Shaq was the year he won the le then I don’t even want to know what Jim was during 09-11. I mean if winning the le is then losing in the first round to the 8th seed as the 1 seed is???

And Kobe more than redeemed himself with his second le run. Trying to act like making it to 3 finals and winning 2 as repeat champions is an easy thing to do. If it’s so easy, why didn’t Jim repeat? Oh that’s right he had his ass bounced by Kobe in 2008.

Small market yes but let’s not act like San Antonio is a typical small market. They only have 4 years in their history of not making the playoffs. It’s not like Jim went to the Cavs and resurrected a ty team like Lebron or took an expansion team to the Finals like Shaq. The Spurs were in the hunt with Robinson.

Such a bad take there, Tim swept Kirby in the 90's & 10's. Kirby couldn't even sniff the playoffs the final 4 years of his career while Tim was still winning and playing in the Finals.

I don't see how he isn't top 10 all time.

And Tim Duncan has never missed the playoffs his entire career. Never had below .500 record in any season. That guy was a winner.

    but....he did get bronze though

I know I'm taking the bait, but I couldn't resist; the most hilarious part of an already flimsy argument is trying to make getting on in the Finals more impactful, or equal even, to getting an MVP *and* winning the Finals as MVP. Just ed up logic all around, not that I expected anything else from a trolling kobestan

U would be hard pressed to find any legitimate ranking that has Kobe top 10, nevertheless ahead of Duncan
