I know that this is a emotionally charged question.

What does Benson owe the city of New Orleans?

Obviously, the politically correct answer is that he should keep the team there as a rallying point. Which is 100% true, if feasible, it's in the city's and state's interest to keep the Saints in NO. I agree with Loose believe it or not.

But is he a PR firm, or a business owner?

    Your thoughts...

You owe it to yourself to keep your family safe. They eat their young in New Orleans.

Well besides that fact that we are apparently cannibals.....

N.O. made Benson the most profitable owner of a small market franchise in the history of sports. He inherited the Superdome with no debt and a rabid fan base that has supported (see: put plenty of money is his pocket) the team and Benson even though he has consistently put out one of the worst products in the league.

Here is an intersting article from the N.O. newspaper that was written by a journalist who has lived in the city forever.

For the good of the state, the Saints and their fans, Tom Benson should cut his ties to the franchise

I think this explains how many in N.O. feel about the situation.

Realistically, Tom Benson doesn't owe the city of New Orleans , especially if the force majeure clause in the Saints contract with the state is executed.

That doesn't mean that it's virtuous, morally proper, or ethically correct to shut out the town like it looks like he wants to do by any means, though. In fact, it's downright funny that a guy who owns a team named the Saints has no moral compass.

Never thought of it that way...just a little twist of irony to keep things intersting.

the bigger question that needs to be answered is that "Is Benson in business for money or charity?

San Antonio is putting green in his pocket. New Orleans is not putting green in his wallet. Even before the hurricane hit, New Orleans was not putting the green in his wallet.
