A core fundamental belief of Libertarianism is that charities can better handle relief efforts than social programs funded through taxation. This has always been the Libertarian counter argument to where society will get the money to help the less fortunate. And better than taxation, it's voluntary and doesn't violate the non-aggression principal the ideology is centered on.

Americans give about a half trillion every year to charity. These are obviously different times, so what is stopping us from collectively performing the largest charity drive in maybe human history in order to prop up the economy until we get a handle on the virus?

"We just don't have the money right now to donate."

I call bull on that. Yes, those affected don't have the money right now, but not everyone is facing dire straits because of the pandemic, especially our bootstrapped billionaires. I think Bezos has increased his net worth by like 20 billion over the pandemic.

10 trillion could pay every working American 75K. Now 10 trillion is obviously unrealistic and every working American doesn't need the relief. But raising 2 or 3 trillion from a historic effort and focusing all of that on small business and employee relief would go a long in' way. We have 570 billionaires in this country. They could easily collectively raise half a trillion. Jack Dorsey proved the concept by donating a billion, which is a 3rd of his net worth, that yes, they really don't "need it." And I'm not just putting the onus on the ultrawealthy. Everyone should donate what they can.

Yeah. I know the particulars are easier said than done. Who runs the charity? Can it be trusted? Moving all that money to right the places in an efficient amount of time will be a challenge. But Kennedy: "We do thing because they're hard."

So why hasn't someone like Bezos or Zuckerberg (lol 25 million from him into "research") stepped up, put 5 or 10 billion down and posed the challenge to all Americans of raising the most money in human history for a cause? I call out Bezos and the popular billionaires in this case because we need a national figure of their stature to generate focus into one direction. These scattered charities and GoFundMes and such aren't embedded enough into the national consciousness to get enough people on board. I'd like to see a national drive.

Not only will the above not work, The way in which the testing of this virus is being handled fits the Libertarian model and is utterly foolish.
We need UNIFORM testing and some sort of tracking. As of right now, states are getting different tests from varying sources (even South Korea) This is Absolutely not the way to get the economy back and running OR stop future events like this by getting decent data. And the tracking issue... you don’t track anyone as a libertarian.

Again this has come down to the same old vexing problem: The rights of the individual v. the good of the whole.

We know which side the red team and libertarians slant to.
This virus has punched their notions in the face.
    THE UNITED______ what?

    This is is a joke.

(Testing) is a stall practice to halt opening.

And the Dems, in association with MSM ain't gonna let go, or, let up. The old man is trapped on it, with the woman & Fauci up his ass.

Keep your eyes peeled on that GA. governor. MSM is going to work on him like a $3 to keep him from opening on Friday. & he'll cave, I'll bet anybody ELE stakes that that honky ass caves before Fri...

"I must listen to my heart. I cannot, in full conscience open our great state when the people of this great state remain at risk. I apologize, very deeply apologize that I even considered opening. The President, bless his heart, is wrong, and I was following his lead. I am going to go back now and keep working night and day to make Georgia what it has always been. A great state. Thank you."

And then praising protesters who clamor for exactly what his heart tells him is wrong.

If you don’t believe the testing is bad, you can’t be helped.
Lets hope the Earth eventually turns spherical for both of us.

Well dammit no. We should have a NASA devoted to a round earth, and NASA devoted to a flat Earth.
    Sorry bout that.

What I'm discussing here is a potential economic solution to keep people afloat while we build up that capacity. My question is: Why aren't Americans collectively stepping up and doing what government can't do in the case of charitable relief, especially those 537 individuals who have like a combined net worth of 3 trillion? This has always been the Libertarian argument. "No, you don't need to tax them to help people. They'll give to charity on their own!"

Sure they will . Bezos just made 24 billion in an exploitative way and hasn't even peeled off so much as a billion to help out. So here, I'm simultaneously challenging Libertarianism to answer the call and debunking it. Bezos and et al won't step up to the plate because they are simply greedy in' pigs. Libertarianism can't work with greedy in' pigs if you want to have a safe and functioning society, which is why the only solution is "force them" to through taxes.

Yes and I have said no way to your proposition, and expanded on the general theme of Everyman for himself.

I think States should have their own standing armies with no federally controlled forces and decide if they want to participate in military ventures on their own. no, each city can just use its police force, let’s get as local as we can to solving big nationwide problems.

Liberterians will keep their mouths shut cuz the dear leader daddy Trump and the Republicans are in charge. The Coronavirus hoax is real and people need help even though the average American is getting pennies when compared to the Billions of $$$ that Trump approved for corporations - corproate bailout.

Now you gotta set up a new email account every time you make an alt. Nobody other than Derp wants to bother with that.
