Through 4 games the Spurs are collectively shooting 76.4% from the line. Last season the average was 72.4% or 26th best in the NBA.

If they had shot 76.4% from the line last season they would have been tied for 14th in the league.

That's because Tim and Tony have significantly improved in that area.

If they can keep that up that would be awsome. Then we can be more confident in close games.

The end-of-game free throw shooting was promising last night. Tim and Tony both faced their demons, went to the line late, and hit free throws that the Spurs had to have.

I thought the end-of-game execution in sets and isolations was pretty bad, but at least they hit their free throws and gave themselves a chance to stay in the game.

Had they shot 14th best in the league last year, they may have won 65 games.

Exactly. Both TD and TP knocked down 4 huge FTs in the waning moments last night. Had it been last season, 2 or 3 misses and a loss would not have been surprising.

Manu's FT wasn't what it was in the finals.

Watching Tony rip those last 2 FTs last night to push the lead to 7 in OT was awesome, especially since I had the Spurs -5.5. I was glad that game went into OT and Tim and Tony started knocking down FTs. Let's hope they keep it up.

Manu's everything is not what it was in the finals. Parker has picked up his game and had to rely less on Manu for dishing the ball off. If Parker continues to play the way he is Manu's stats will go down.

Yea, I noticed that about Manu's FT's. He seems to be clanking a lot more. I know his layups and jumpshot isn't there cuz of the injury, but I didn't think his thigh bruise would affect his FT so much...

"I didn't think his thigh bruise would affect his FT so much..."

good shooters shoot with the entire body in one motion, so if the bruise is taking some spring and strength from his thigh, everything will be off. His shots were mostly short, clanging on the front for the rim, esp his 3Gs, which usually indicates fatigue/weakness.

I meant to quote romsey31 on that, but somehow didn't. The point remains the same -- I'd have to go back and count, but there were way too many games last season where, had the Spurs shot 76% or so from the line, they would have won.

One part of the equation here that hasn't gotten much play is that the Spurs aren't getting to line with anything like the frequency of last year. Entering the 4th Quarter last night, they had 8 FTA total. They had fewer than 10 against Cleveland (and were outshot by a wide margin at the line). They also were outshot in Dallas and in Chicago.
