    Politics by other means.

In Azerbaijan, meanwhile, Aliyev said the agreement was “historic” and that Armenia had been forced to negotiate because of Azerbaijan’s military successes.

“This statement has historic significance,” he wrote on Twitter. “This statement cons utes Armenia’s capitulation. This statement puts an end to the years-long occupation. This statement is our Glorious Victory!”

Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid, reporting from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, said news of the agreement brought people onto the streets to celebrate despite a curfew. The deal includes Armenia handing back some territories on the edge of the Nagorno-Karabakh region, while Azerbaijan will halt its push towards Stepanakert, he added.

    Putin doing work still.

Russia gains foothold in the Caucassus. Not to mention more international respect.

Those drone swarms that Azerbaijan launched at Armenia with help of Israel were a real pain. Obliterated most Armenian mechanized army.

The war of the future. If hundred suicide drones can stop an army. Holy what can thousand drone swarms do?????

None of this matters if we hadn't gone full isolation.

Azerbaijan should be our buddy. Instead we stand aside as Turkey and Russia fill vacuums.

No . Thats why Russia stepped in to save Armenia. They also have weapons deals and a base in Armenia btw.

On the other hand Israel has weapons factories in Azerbaijan. And yes the turks are their allies. Btw Turkey supposed to patrol the corridors along w Russians. Well see how that works out.

It was pure luck that re Ajerbaijani downed a Russian chopper yesterday by mistake. That openend the door for this deal.

then how is this russians gaining foothold in the caucuses if their biggest ally just lost power in the region at the expense of azerbaijan/turkey?

    this doesnt make sense

Part of it. Has been a century long protection racket. Plenty of Turkish/Azeri aggression in the region in 1900s, red army was seen as a security blanket. British had a small force there that never did much, but during collapse of ussr Armenia chose to stay within their sphere of influence as opposed to doing what the baltics did. If they played nicer with the west, they could have had diplomatic protection from turkey and co instead

Armenia and the Turks pretty famously don't get along going back to the Ottoman era and the establishment of the janissaries.

For the past month, the so-called Lachin corridor that links Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia has been closed off, leaving as many as 100,000 people living there under effective blockade, with supplies of food, medicines and other essentials running low.

“Over the last two days, I’ve barely been able to find anything to eat in the shops,” said Marut Vanyan, a 39-year-old blogger living in the region’s de facto capital, Stepanakert.

“First it was vegetables and fresh fruit that disappeared. Now, there’s only alcohol left on the shelves and not much else. In the mornings, some milk and yogurt comes in from local farms, but it goes very fast,” he told POLITICO.

“Online, all anybody is talking about is where to buy medicine or a sack of potatoes. In the countryside, people have cows and chickens — but half of the population lives in the capital city, and things are very hard here.”
