This cat can replace Damp as the starting center if he keeps it up. Everyone here in DFW is really exited about this guy. Avery likes him too.

They like him for his rebounding and blocking skills. Dirk, Terry and Howard provide good offense and so does Van Horn off the bench.

This guy is a defensive beast. I think it's a scary prospect that he could be in there with Dirk at the same time.

The problem with Dallas now is their lack of outside shooting. If their offense could catch up to their defense.

If I were Dallas I would go with this lineup.

    1 Terry
    2 Daniels
    3 Howard
    4 Dirk
    5 Diop

Thats a lineup looking to the future, keep that core a few years and maybe you have something. Let them grow together and it might work out. Dallas IMO isnt about to win it now but there is certainly talent in that linup both offensively and defensively.

Yeah, that is the talk up here. In fact the Mavs have never had a controversy at the center spot - until now. This guy is clearly an improvement to anything they've had at that spot since the days of James Donaldson.

As much as Avery is trying to downplay it, you can tell he's excited and really likes this kid.

With Van Horn, Diop, and Dampier there is a definitely a problem with who won't get many minutes. Diop might be left out when Van Horn starts playing heavy minutes again. If it were to me Van Horn would only the 3 and 4 position and never the 5.

He's only 23 and he is finally in shape. Losing 35 pounds is a major change to why all of a sudden he is good. The more experience the better he will get. If he keeps his dedication to this than there shouldn't be any problems.

The Mavs organization should be credited with identifying this guy's potential, rescuing from off the "scrap heap" and giving him a specific plan as to how to succeed in this league. Of this type or progress continues, the Mavs will have a player on their hands (at a cheap price too)

As well as this speaks for their organization, it also speaks to the type of organization that the Cavs had in place (prior to the Danny Ferry era). It's no wonder they never won .

    I can't beleive this thread...

    As a rookie: 6 minutes, 1.4 points, 1 rebounds, .56 blocks
fourth year player: 7.8 minutes, 1 points, 1.8 rebounds, .69 blocks

Career averages of 1.6 points on 36% shooting (40% from FT), 2.6 rebounds, .55 blocks, 1.1 fouls in an average of 10.8 minutes per game.

He is widely considered to be thee least skilled of any player in the League, not just on offense. At his currect career clip, even 30 minutes a game won't mean much with measly averages of 4.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.65 blocks and 3.3 fouls.

I understand he had a good game, but let's not mix facts. He's a slouch player who's apparently lost 25 pounds, but still has very little to no real skill.

Neither does the Mavs starting center - Erick Dampier.

I agree this should not be considered the second coming of James Donaldson, but if your team has been so starved at the 5 position for the past decade or so, you can kinda understand why Mavs fans are giddy after such a rare single-game performance.

He's been amazing the entire season getting a couple of boards and 2 blocks in limited action and when he got the chance to play a ton of minutes he produced much, much more. Actually, even if he didn't grab 16 rebounds and 6 blocks he still would've had an impressive game based on intangibles alone.
