NEW YORK (AP) -- Knicks star Stephon Marbury was sued for $34,000 by a security firm led by a former New York City police commissioner.

The firm, SafirRosetti LLC, contends it provided security for Marbury between Jan. 6 and Jan. 19, 2004, for $42,312. Court papers say the player paid $8,000, leaving a balance, including interest, of $34,312.

An invoice from the firm dated Jan. 29, 2004, shows it provided 454 hours of "personal protection services" for the 6-foot-2 point guard. The do ent also lists the hourly rates of various employees, and expenses for food and transportation. The rate for former police commissioner Howard Safir is $275 an hour, according to the do ent.

The bill was sent to Marbury at his Starbury Corp. in Scottsdale, Ariz. Marbury grew up in Brooklyn and lives in suburban Purchase.

A person at the office of SafirRosetti's lawyer, Robert E. Judge, hung up when asked for someone who could comment on the case.

The Knicks did not immediately return calls. The team was to play the Nuggets in Denver on Friday night.
